Kaylie and Dylan's Glittering Disco Love Story Begins at The Venue at Oakdale

At Wakarusa 2015, these two free spirits were drawn together. Kaylie - a wildly dressed, fiercely independent girl ready to dance her heart out. And Dylan - the cool California boy with an easy smile that made Kaylie's knees weak. "We didn't immediately fall in love on a romantic level after we met but we DID have an instant connection that made us inseparable from that moment on," Kaylie admitted. As if destinies intertwined, they were inseparable the entire festival, dancing under the stars into the wee hours.

In the months that followed, an undeniable connection blossomed between best friends. “I mean, I always dropped discreet (and some not so discreet) hints that we were meant to be… like, I would never let him forget that he was going to be my husband and I would have his babies one day,” the bride laughed. Then finally, liquid courage led to Kaylie daring her dream guy to kiss her. As expected, sparks flew as bright as any festival firework.

Dylan and Kaylie's shared passion for dancing was a core inspiration for their wedding vision. "Before we met, I was too anxious to dance in front of people," admitted Kaylie. But Dylan's enthusiasm helped her embrace the joy of music. "The point is to let yourself get lost in the music and enjoy it!" he'd say. “So my love for dancing started shortly after we met and we continue to seek out dance-centric events to attend,” Kaylie added. Their free-spirited moves at that first festival sparked a lifetime love for grooving together.

Naturally, disco balls became a must for their wedding décor. The glittering orbs perfectly captured their spirit while setting the scene for nonstop fun. "We unsurprisingly needed disco balls at our wedding. While they could be "trendy", they are timeless, beautiful, and set the tone for having a good time. How could guests NOT dance or have fun with disco balls everywhere?" said Kaylie.

Most meaningful were the couple's own first dances. Spinning wildly with her mom to their favorite tunes was a special mother-daughter moment. And Kaylie will never forget gazing into Dylan's eyes as they swayed, the epitome of true love.

Ensconced in the exquisite bridal suite, Kaylie prepared to meet her groom. She grinned thinking of the dress awaiting her - the one she knew was destined to be hers. "I cannot lie I felt like a true princess every time I wore it," Kaylie swooned. "It was modern, mid-century, smooth lines, super flattering, and a little extra. The train was extremely long and was bustled after the ceremony so I could dance."

She'd found it at Low's Bridal - the very first gown she tried. Kaylie knew instantly this was the one, utterly enchanted. “ I saw it on the mannequin as soon as I walked in,” she recalled. “I tried several on that day but it was very clear which ones I loved vs didn't. And the very first dress that caught my eye, I waited to try on, ended up being the one.”

First Look

“The first look was THE sweetest moment,” the bride states. “Being with Dylan for 6 years prior to the wedding, we always got each other's opinion before making purchases and never kept them a secret from one another. Keeping my dress a secret from him was the worst! I wanted his approval badly but resisted the urge to stick with the traditions. Leading up to the wedding, Dylan had handled the dress in its bag many times (from car to apartment, apartment to car, car to get fitted, etc), so I was 99% sure he had an idea of what it would look like and wouldn't be surprised come wedding day.”
Kaylie tapped Dylan's shoulder, heart racing. As he turned, his eyes widened, utterly enchanted by his breathtaking bride. "He immediately had tears and made me feel like he was genuinely in awe from seeing me. The feels were feelin’. His reaction was more approval than I ever could've dreamt of so keeping the dress a secret was very much worth it!" said Kaylie.

Ceremony

Surrounded by loved ones, Kaylie's walk down the aisle began. Gliding towards Dylan on her mother's arm, the instrumental strains of "A Thousand Years" filled the room. With her father watching over from above, having her mom by her side brought comfort and courage. She cradled her bouquet with his ring tied on, their hearts united. Kaylie beamed passing familiar faces, this traditional ceremony honoring their families coming together.

Vows were recited through joyful tears, binding their lives forever. When pronounced husband and wife, elation roared through the room. Sealed with a kiss, the two were one - embarking on a new life blessed by those present in body and spirit.

After their first moments as newlyweds, Dylan and Kaylie captured the joy with photos around the venue. “Favorite photoshoot locations: the ice cream truck and the glam couch in the reception room with the "Music Sounds Better With You" neon sign," shared Kaylie.

The variety of backdrops let their quirky personalities shine in the images. And most importantly, the sheer happiness of two soulmates united beamed brightly in every shot.

Wedding Venue & Decor

The reception décor was a vibrant reflection of Kaylie and Dylan's unconventional style. Kaylie hand-selected a bold color palette of pinks, mauves, olive, and gold. “I wanted as many colors as possible, primarily pinks, while keeping a somewhat mid-century modern scheme. We did not want to be kept in a box of a specific style so we landed on classy, eclectic, mid-century modern,” she explained.

Meaningful DIY elements like Kaylie's mom's stunning floral installation personalized the space. And The Venue's specialty touches like a light-up dance floor delighted guests.

“This venue had everything we needed and more, which meant we needed to be able to host a stunning wedding that's all indoors. From the custom floor lights, color-changing lights, the acrylic chairs, to the manicured rooms.. we were highly impressed with the amenities, and what sold us was the connection we made with our tour guide Carol. We immediately bonded, booked the venue, and hired Carol as our Coordinator,” mentioned Kaylie.

Reception

For their first dance, Kaylie and Dylan swayed to "Best Part" surrounded by loved ones. Later, an on-site ice cream truck provided a sweet - and practical - treat for guests on the hot summer night. From the eclectic style to nonstop dancing, the reception captured this couple's spirit. It was the perfect celebration of their one-of-a-kind disco love.
