A Mountain-Inspired Wedding at Villa La Scrivana: Giulia & Alessio's Celebration in the Hills of Piedmont

Love Story

Seven years of hiking together, exploring mountains across Italy and beyond, and building a life side by side—that's the foundation of Giulia and Alessio's love story. "I was a childhood friend of his brother, and our love grew during the mountain hikes we used to take together with friends," Giulia shares.

The path to living together wasn't straightforward. "Alessio was working in Turin, and in 2020 he moved back home with the idea of moving in together, but due to Covid we had to wait. Shortly after, we were finally able to start living together," Giulia recalls. Their shared passion for the mountains has taken them on countless adventures, with a summer trip to Norway—just before the wedding—becoming a major source of inspiration for their big day.

The proposal stayed true to who they are as a couple. "Alessio proposed to me at home, by organizing an intimate dinner. We are not people who enjoy being in the spotlight, and he is a very private person who loves simple, genuine romance. It was exactly our style, and I didn't expect it," Giulia remembers. That Valentine's Day 2024 proposal set the wheels in motion for a year of planning.

About Your Wedding

From the very beginning, Giulia and Alessio knew exactly what they wanted. "Our dream was to create a mountain-inspired wedding, as the mountains are our greatest passion. Every detail reflected this theme, from the seating chart to the table linens and floral arrangements, including handmade wooden place cards," Giulia explains.

They took their time to get it right. "Alessio asked me to marry him on February 14th, 2024, and we got married a year later because we wanted to personalize every detail," says Giulia. Working at her family's flower shop, Il Mercatino dei Fiori, where she designs high-end events around Lake Como, gave her the perfect background to create something she'd never attempted before.

"As a florist, my main source of inspiration came from our hikes in the mountains. Being surrounded by nature sparked countless ideas and creative possibilities I wanted to experiment with. Since I had never done this for any client before, every single detail was thoughtfully designed and fully personalized just for us."

Their Norway trip became crucial to the design. "Our vision was to create a warm, convivial wedding, just like the moments we share in mountain refuges with our families and friends," Giulia describes.

Morning Details

Every element carried meaning, starting with the invitations. "They were designed by Maddalena Iannantuoni, a dear friend of mine and a talented designer," Giulia shares.

The wedding rings came from family. "They were custom-made for us by one of Alessio's uncles, who was a goldsmith in Brera. We chose a classic French-style design in rose gold," Giulia explains.

Giulia's jewelry connected her to both families. "I wore a vintage gold bracelet that belonged to Alessio's grandmother. I also wore a jewelry set: earrings gifted by my bridesmaids and a necklace with a blue sapphire and diamonds, given to me by my mother-in-law."

Bride Getting Ready

Villa La Scrivana became home base for the entire day. "We had the entire getting-ready photoshoot at our wedding venue, La Scrivana, where we also celebrated our wedding," Giulia shares. "I was with my mother, my bridesmaids, and my witnesses. We got ready together, and it was a truly special and beautiful moment."

Her dress was everything she'd imagined. "My wedding dress was custom-made by Arosio Spose, and it was exactly how I had imagined it. The process felt very natural, as the dress truly reflected my vision from the very beginning," she recalls. Instead of a traditional veil, Giulia went vintage. "I chose not to wear a traditional veil. Instead, I opted for a net veil (birdcage), as I loved its vintage feel and its very Italian, timeless style," Giulia explains. Her bridesmaids kept things simple, "They wore simple dresses, without a specific brand, chosen to feel natural and effortless."

The bouquet was pure mountain magic. "All the floral design was created by us. My team at Il Mercatino dei Fiori and I personally coordinated the entire project together with my staff. The theme was inspired by the mountains, so we used ferns, moss, hydrangeas, and many seasonal wildflowers typical of October. My bridal bouquet was made with lilac lathyrus and white narcissus," Giulia describes.

Groom Getting Ready

Alessio had his own space at the villa. "We got ready directly at Villa La Scrivana. I had my own apartment and he had his as well. We were both surrounded by our families, witnesses, and bridesmaids, who supported us throughout the preparations," Giulia shares.

His suit was tailored to perfection. "The groom's suit was custom-made by Sartoria Fiorella, tailored specifically for him in Milan," she notes.

Ceremony

The intimate chapel at Villa La Scrivana set the perfect scene. "The ceremony took place inside the church of Villa La Scrivana," Giulia notes. The small space meant everyone felt close to the action. "I walked down the aisle to the sound of a harp playing Pachelbel's Canon, creating a timeless and emotional atmosphere," she recalls. Their witnesses carried the rings, and the ceremony hit all the right notes.

“When I entered the church, I felt very tense and emotional. The church inside Villa La Scrivana is very small, more like an intimate chapel that hosts only a few people, so everyone was very close to one another. To reach the altar, I only had to take about ten steps. It was incredibly emotional, and I felt tight with nerves, like a violin string, with all eyes focused on me,” Giulia recalls.

"The exchange of vows was incredibly meaningful, as well as the priest's homily. He dedicated many sweet and heartfelt words to us, which made the ceremony even more emotional and intimate," Giulia remembers.

Photoshoot After The Ceremony

October delivered perfect weather. "Our photoshoot actually took place right after the religious ceremony, once we were officially husband and wife. The day was truly wonderful: even though it was October, we were lucky to have a sunny and warm day," Giulia shares.

They explored the entire property. "We took photos outside the church, under the arches, and in the courtyard with the soft autumn light. Then we moved inside the villa, taking photos on the historic staircase and in the greenhouse, where the reception later took place," she describes. "We spent the entire day at Villa La Scrivana. We chose it specifically because it felt like the perfect place for our wedding: it truly reflected our taste, aligned perfectly with our theme, and offered a variety of beautiful spaces for photography," Giulia explains.

Wedding Venue & Decor

This is where Giulia's professional expertise and personal passion collided beautifully. Every element spoke to their love of mountains and that transformative Norway trip.

"With the mountains as our main theme, we chose a setup made with seasonal flowers, mountain ferns, branches, wildflowers, and moss. These elements reflected the idea of an undergrowth forest and reminded us of the walks we usually take surrounded by nature, which are a great source of inspiration for us," Giulia describes. "A major inspiration for the floral design, created by my team at Il Mercatino dei Fiori, which I run together with my family, was the trip we took to Norway."

The church got a delicate touch. "Inside the church, which is very small, the decor was simple and delicate, featuring cascading ferns and moss, with a few arrangements placed on the stone ledges of the arches," she notes.

The greenhouse reception space was something else. "In the greenhouse, the atmosphere felt truly magical: we chose tablecloths by Mise en Place, with green toile de Jouy patterns that evoked a sense of old Italy. The tables were arranged in a horseshoe shape, inspired by traditional communal tables, leaving space in the center for dancing and speeches," Giulia explains.

"A floral runner ran along the tables, made of moss, wildflowers, and willow branches, alternated with candles. Everything felt perfectly balanced and deeply meaningful to us," she continues.

The personalized details made it uniquely theirs. "We personalized many elements of our wedding, starting with the graphics designed by my dear friend and designer Maddalena Iannantuoni. The welcome display featured champagne glasses offered to guests upon arrival and was placed right in front of the church. The seating chart was shaped like Monte Rosa, with wildflowers arranged at its base. Each guest had a handmade, hand-painted wooden place tag, created by Sara Alello, which made every detail feel truly unique."

Finding the venue was meant to be. "The venue was recommended by our photographer. We were initially looking for a mountain location, but when we didn't find the right one, Villa La Scrivana felt like the perfect compromise. We immediately loved its timeless atmosphere—it felt like stepping back into an old, rural Italy, surrounded by the hills of Piedmont, perfectly in line with the style and mood of our wedding," Giulia recalls.

Reception

They kicked things off their way. "Alessio and I didn’t have a traditional first dance. Instead, when we entered the greenhouse for the reception, we played ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’ by Marvin Gaye. It’s a fun, joyful song that truly represents us. We danced a little, spinning around the room, but we didn’t choose a romantic slow dance, as it wouldn’t have felt authentic to who we are," Giulia explains.

The food celebrated Piedmont. "The menu was inspired by traditional Piedmontese cuisine. It included vitello tonnato, risotto with Bleu del Moncenisio cheese, herb-crusted veal, and an aperitivo featuring a selection of meats, cheeses, and classic Italian vegetarian dishes," she describes. Gerla Catering's pastry chef created the wedding cake.

Live music from Shalo Live Music and DJ services from Musica per Eventi kept the party going. The horseshoe table setup made it feel just like those mountain refuge meals they love—everyone together, conversation flowing, nobody left out.

The warm October evening delivered exactly what they'd hoped for. Candlelight flickered against moss and wildflowers. The greenhouse glowed. And 85 guests celebrated in a space that felt less like a formal reception and more like gathering with family at their favorite mountain refuge.
