Valentina Álvarez co-founded Prana Weddings & Events at the age of eighteen, while still studying Business Administration. It was a single wedding that convinced her she had found her calling. "At the end of the wedding, the bride's mother told me that I had a bright future in the industry," she recalls. "Those words stayed with me."
She now runs the studio alongside her husband and has built PRANA Eventos around destination weddings for international couples visiting Colombia. This philosophy was put to the test during a wedding that blended Colombian Pacific and African American traditions for a couple living in the US. Daniela Lopera trained as a psychologist before venturing into the events industry in her final year at university, going on to found Caribe Cordial Weddings. She planned her first destination wedding at the age of 21 for a couple from Singapore who had got engaged in Cartagena. "It's deeply rewarding to have the trust of couples and their families, and to accompany them during a celebration that brings everyone together," she says.
Her studio approaches weddings as rituals first and productions second: "we can't forget what this is all about, the main pillar, the celebration of a ritual with all the loved ones," she says. One of her most challenging experiences was calming a bride who was having an anxiety attack just before the ceremony. She says this taught her that "active listening and empathy become the primary tools when situations go beyond logistical limitations". Her dream project would take place in Santa Cruz de Mompox, a colonial town which she describes as a place "where it seems time has decided to take a nap".
María Fernanda Sánchez
María Fernanda Sánchez has spent a decade developing her Bogotá-based practice, which she describes as operating "at the intersection between aesthetics, emotion, and high-level design". Her approach to luxury defies convention: "luxury, in my experience, is not a budget," she says. "It's the level of attention that most people never consciously notice, but always feel."
She judges the success of a wedding less by its scale than by whether it felt authentic to those experiencing it. "The weddings people remember are rarely the ones with the most flowers or the biggest budget," she says. "They are the ones where something felt true, where the atmosphere matched the people, and the people felt it."
