Villa Sofia was a home before it was ever a business. For almost ten years, this private Italian family property has welcomed guests, and only gradually did that hospitality turn into something couples could book for their wedding weekend. Set within the protected Curone Regional Park, a short drive from Lake Como and three other lakes, the villa has hosted around 30 weddings over the past three years alone - each one shaped by the same family that still runs the place today.

"Villa Sofia is a private Italian family home that has welcomed guests for almost ten years," the family explains. "What began as a place of hospitality has naturally evolved into an exclusive destination for intimate weddings, while always preserving its authentic character. Over the past three years, we have had the privilege of hosting around 30 weddings, and every one has been unique. Each celebration has inspired us to grow, refine every detail of the experience, and create something even more personal for future couples."

That growth has never meant handing the work off to outside staff. "This journey has involved our entire family, and that is what truly makes Villa Sofia special," they add.

We don't simply host weddings, we welcome couples into our home and create unforgettable memories with genuine care, passion, and attention to every detail.

One Villa, Many Ways to Say "I Do"

Villa Sofia isn't a single room couples book and decorate - it's a small collection of distinct settings across the grounds.

"Ceremonies take place beneath our elegant gazebo, shaded by majestic beech trees that create a beautiful natural canopy," the family says. "Receptions are often set under centuries-old trees or beneath our iconic wisteria, creating an unforgettable open-air dining experience. Elegant glass verandas overlooking the park and our refined indoor spaces provide beautiful alternatives for receptions or ceremonies, ensuring the celebration is just as special in every season."

The property changes with the calendar, too. "Every season brings its own magic to Villa Sofia," they explain. "Spring fills the gardens with fresh blooms, summer offers long golden evenings and unforgettable dinners under the stars, autumn transforms the park into a tapestry of warm colours, and winter creates an intimate atmosphere with elegant interiors, glowing fireplaces, and candlelit celebrations. From the soft morning light to golden sunset and the sparkle of the evening, the villa changes throughout the day, offering beautiful settings and unexpected moments at every hour."

Part of that setting is the land around the villa, not just the villa itself. "One of Villa Sofia's greatest strengths is its location," the family notes. "Set within the protected Curone Regional Park, the villa offers complete privacy surrounded by nature, while remaining just a short drive from four beautiful lakes, including Lake Como. Guests can enjoy scenic countryside, charming villages, and outdoor experiences, making Villa Sofia the perfect base for a true Italian wedding weekend, not just a wedding day."

Scale is a deliberate limit here, not a constraint the venue is working around.

"Villa Sofia is designed for intimate celebrations," the family says.

We welcome up to 60 guests for the wedding day, while up to 20 guests can stay overnight in the villa. We find that weddings of 30 to 50 guests create the perfect balance, elegant, relaxed, and deeply personal, allowing everyone to feel truly connected throughout the weekend.

Food and lodging are handled with the same house-first approach. "We work with a carefully selected team of trusted caterers who have been part of Villa Sofia for years, ensuring exceptional quality and a seamless experience," the family explains. "For the welcome dinner or post-wedding brunch, couples can also choose a private chef for a more intimate atmosphere. One of our most loved experiences is our signature Italian Pizza Night, where guests gather to make and bake authentic pizzas together, a relaxed and memorable way to begin the wedding weekend while celebrating the joy of Italian cuisine."

Overnight guests stay inside the villa itself. "Villa Sofia accommodates up to 20 overnight guests: 10 guests in elegant double bedrooms within the main villa, with additional accommodation in our spacious private attic suite," they add. "The morning after is one of our couples' favourite moments, sharing breakfast or a relaxed brunch together, enjoying the gardens, and extending the celebration without the rush of checking out after just one day. It's the perfect ending to a true Italian wedding weekend."

The same selectivity carries over to who else works on-site. "We work with a trusted network of selected suppliers who know Villa Sofia and our standards," the family says. "Catering, bar services, and music are exclusively managed by our approved partners to ensure quality and full compliance with local regulations. For services such as photographers, celebrants, hair & makeup artists, and other creative professionals, couples are welcome to bring their own team."

From Every Corner of the World, and Back Again

International couples make up a large share of the guests Villa Sofia hosts each year. "Every wedding at Villa Sofia tells a different story," the family reflects. "We have had the privilege of celebrating Indian, Iranian, German, Australian, American, and many other international weddings, each bringing its own traditions, cultures, and unique moments. One of the things we love most is embracing these traditions while making every couple feel at home. Every celebration becomes a meaningful exchange, not only for our guests, but for our family as well."

Couples are often surprised by how much larger and more versatile the property feels in person, but it's the welcome itself that tends to stay with them longest, and it's a large part of why so many return. "Many of our couples stay in touch and visit us whenever they return to Italy," they note.

Seeing them come back simply to say hello is one of the greatest compliments we can receive. They also recommend Villa Sofia to their friends and family, and many of our weddings come through those heartfelt referrals.

The Details, the Price, and the Person Behind Both

Wedding packages at Villa Sofia start from €15,000 and include exclusive use of the property, two nights of accommodation, and a full wedding experience, with anything beyond that tailored to the couple. Catering is quoted separately, depending on the number of guests.

Logistics on the ground are handled with the same personal touch as everything else. "Planning at Villa Sofia is personally managed by me as the owner, ensuring every detail is carefully coordinated from the first conversation to the wedding day," the owner explains. "A large parking area for more than 50 cars is located just a short walk from the villa, while transport for guests can be arranged through our trusted external partners, making the entire experience smooth and stress-free."

What sets the property apart, in the family's own telling, has as much to do with materials as with hospitality. "Villa Sofia is a true Italian home, rich in original architectural details that are increasingly rare to find," they say. "Wrought-iron features, natural stone, wooden floors, elegant fireplaces, and authentic interiors give the villa a timeless character. Couples also fall in love with our glass verandas overlooking the gardens, the centuries-old wisteria in bloom, and the peaceful koi pond nestled within the park. Rather than a purpose-built venue, Villa Sofia offers something increasingly rare: the feeling of celebrating in an authentic Italian home, surrounded by nature, beauty, and genuine hospitality."

The family sums up their own approach simply. "As a family-run home, we personally take care of every wedding with the same attention we would give our own guests," they say. "We intentionally host only a limited number of celebrations each year, allowing us to offer an experience that is personal, seamless, and never rushed. For couples looking for more than a venue, for those seeking an authentic Italian wedding weekend filled with warmth, beauty, and genuine hospitality, Villa Sofia is a place that feels like home from the very first moment."
