A Dream Come True in Siena: Anthony & Robert's Romantic Italian Wedding at Grand Hotel Continental

Love Story

Anthony and Robert didn't find each other — they were found. Introduced through mutual friends, the connection was immediate. "It was love at first sight," they say, simply and without elaboration, as if the rest of the sentence isn't necessary.
After years of building a life together in Nashville — where Anthony works as a dancer and has performed in several musicals — the two decided it was time to make it official. And when they imagined where that should happen, Italy was never really a question.
The proposal came first, on a different kind of iconic backdrop. "The proposal was beautiful. Brooklyn Bridge was the backdrop, and the emotion of that moment is simply impossible to describe." From New York to Nashville to Siena — their love story has always found the right setting.

About Your Wedding

Anthony and Robert spent close to a year planning their wedding — and the process was anything but linear. Four months before the date, they decided to change venues entirely. For most couples, that would be a crisis. For them, it became a testament to the team they had behind them.
"Our wedding planner was fantastic and handled everything beautifully," they recall. That planner was Elisabetta Picardi of Say Yes In Italy, who would go on to become, in their words, their greatest source of inspiration throughout the entire process.
The vision was clear from the beginning: romantic, timeless, historic. "Our vision was a romantic wedding set in a historic residence." When they found the Grand Hotel Continental Siena, the search was over. "When we discovered the Grand Hotel Continental in Siena, we immediately knew it was the perfect place."
Fifty guests. One magnificent frescoed hall. A day that would exceed every expectation they had brought with them.

Grooms Getting Ready

While Anthony prepared in the hotel suite surrounded by his closest friends and bridesmaids, Robert got ready in a charming historic location just a short distance away — a quiet counterpoint to the grandeur that awaited them both.
Neither opted for a tuxedo. The decision was deliberate and entirely in keeping with who they are. "We didn't opt for a tuxedo. Instead, we chose outfits that reflected our personalities and were in harmony with the overall mood board of the wedding." The goal wasn't formality for its own sake — it was authenticity. "Rather than classic or traditional styles, we looked for something that felt authentic to who we are."
Both outfits were found in New York City, chosen quickly, with certainty. "We chose our wedding outfits quite quickly because we knew we wanted something that truly reflected our personalities — and in the end, it was exactly right for us."
Their engagement rings, they note, were the real accessory of the morning. The highlight not of a look, but of a life already being built.

Photoshoot Before The Ceremony

Before the ceremony, the couple stepped outside the hotel and into Siena itself — one of the most beautiful medieval cities in the world, and the perfect extension of everything they had chosen for their day.
"We chose Siena for our photo session, wandering through its historic streets and the city center, including the iconic Piazza del Campo. It is such a beautiful and timeless place, and it perfectly reflects the atmosphere we dreamed of."
Photographer Ivan Lastorina captured them moving through the city — cobblestones, golden stone facades, the open sweep of the Piazza — two people in no particular hurry, on the most significant day of their lives so far.

Ceremony

The ceremony took place in the same magnificent frescoed hall that would later host their reception dinner — a decision that made the space's transformation one of the day's quiet miracles. In just two hours, Elisabetta and her team, along with the hotel staff, transformed the ceremony setup into a full-dinner reception. "It was truly impressive," Anthony and Robert recall.
They walked down the aisle to an ABBA song — joyful, unexpected, entirely them. No ring bearer, by choice. "We chose to keep the moment very intimate and simple."
And then the vows. "The most special moment was exchanging our vows and looking into each other's eyes, surrounded by our closest friends and family. It was incredibly emotional, and a moment we will carry in our hearts forever."
No particular traditions guided the day. They didn't need them. "Our focus was simply to celebrate our love in a way that felt authentic to us, sharing the moment with our closest friends and family."

Photoshoot After The Ceremony

Newly married, they wandered through Siena. In January, the city felt hushed, golden, and calm—offering exactly what they needed.
"We also took photos in Piazza del Campo, one of the most iconic and breathtaking places in the city, which perfectly captured the timeless atmosphere we were looking for."
The streets they walked through that afternoon were the same streets they had explored before the ceremony — but everything about them felt different now.

Wedding Venue & Decor

The Grand Hotel Continental Siena is not a neutral backdrop. It is a participant. Its frescoed ceilings, its architecture, its particular quality of grandeur that somehow never tips into coldness — all of it shaped what Anthony and Robert's wedding looked and felt like from the moment guests arrived.
The color palette was designed entirely by Elisabetta Picardi. "She blended deep reds and burgundy tones with soft blush shades and touches of ivory and gold, creating a romantic and sophisticated atmosphere that perfectly enhanced the historic elegance of the Grand Hotel Continental."
Long imperial tables filled the frescoed hall. Warm candlelight and soft amber lighting moved across the architecture. Floral arrangements in deep reds, soft blush, and ivory — English roses, peonies, anthuriums, and ranunculus, created by flower designer Vincenzo Fontanella — sat at the center of it all. Gold details, crystal glassware, candlelit candelabras. "An atmosphere that felt both intimate and dramatic."
The personalized details were everywhere, once you knew how to look. Guests' names printed in gold on elegant ribbons over the napkins. Menus featuring a graphic inspired by a decorative detail from the hotel's main hall. And two signature cocktails — one for Anthony, one for Robert — waiting at the aperitivo in the Clock Room.
"We simply shared the colors and style we loved, and she transformed them into something truly extraordinary with professionalism and empathy, leaving all our guests and us completely speechless."

Reception

For their first dance, Anthony did not choose a song. He wrote one.
"For our first dance, I performed a song I personally wrote and recorded for Robert. It was a very emotional and intimate moment for both of us." In a room already full of beauty, this was the moment that made it something else entirely — specific, irreplaceable, unrepeatably theirs.
There was no traditional wedding cake. There was no cake cutting. What there was, instead, was a room full of people who had traveled to be there, a hall that had been transformed twice in a single day, and two people who had brought every part of themselves to the celebration.
"Working with Elisabetta Picardi and her team at Say Yes In Italy was an incredible experience. From the very beginning, she understood our vision and guided us with professionalism, creativity, and empathy. Every detail was carefully designed, and the result was even more beautiful than we had imagined."
And at the end of it all, the simplest possible summary of a day that had been anything but simple: "Our wedding in Siena was truly a dream come true."
