DC Film Co. is led by Derek Chan and Cece Wang, a husband-and-wife team who have been making wedding films for over a decade. Based in Toronto and working internationally across North America, Europe, and Asia, they document celebrations ranging from intimate private gatherings to large multi-day destination weekends.

How DC Film Co. Came to Be

The studio grew out of a genuine love of storytelling rather than a business plan. “Our path into weddings came from a love of storytelling and cinema,” they say. “What drew us to weddings was the fact that every celebration has its own atmosphere, its own rhythm, and its own group of people.”

Today, they document multi-day wedding weekends around the world, often alongside planners and creative teams they’ve built long-standing relationships with.

Our approach is centered on filming quietly and allowing the day to unfold without over-directing the experience.

A Calendar They Keep Small on Purpose

DC Film Co. takes on around 10 to 12 weddings per year, and that decision is intentional. “We keep our calendar intentionally limited so we can stay personally involved in each celebration,” they explain. “Working at that pace allows us to travel for destination events and dedicate proper time to the editing process so each film receives the attention it deserves.”

For couples, it means when Derek and Cece are present at a wedding, their attention is fully there, rather than divided across overlapping events and edit schedules.

What They’re Actually Looking For on the Day

Ask Derek and Cece what they enjoy most about the work and the answer isn’t about gear or production scale. It’s about people. “For us, it’s the people and the atmosphere of the celebration. Weddings bring together families, friendships, and histories that have often been building for decades,” they say. “It is often the small interactions and unexpected moments that become the most meaningful parts of the film.”

Their approach is built around understanding the rhythm of a wedding day and moving within it carefully, allowing meaningful moments to unfold without interruption.

We’re always paying attention to pacing, sound, and the atmosphere of a room because those details are what bring people back into the memory years later.

The Weddings That Stay With Them

With more than a decade of celebrations behind them, we asked Derek and Cece which weddings have stayed with them most.

“It’s difficult to choose just one because every celebration has its own story and set of people,” they say. “What tends to stay with us are the weddings where the atmosphere feels very genuine, where families and friends are fully present and the weekend unfolds organically. Those celebrations often leave the strongest impression because the energy of the people carries through every part of the film.”

Their Advice for Couples

When asked what they would tell every engaged couple, their first point isn’t about logistics or timelines. “One thing we always encourage couples to do is prioritize being present during their wedding day. The most meaningful moments happen when people are relaxed and fully engaged with their guests.”

Their second piece of advice centers around the creative team surrounding the celebration.

It also helps to build a creative team that works well together. When planners, photographers, filmmakers, and designers move in sync, everyone is able to focus on creating a calm and thoughtful experience for the couple and their families.

Why the Film Outlasts Everything Else

Derek and Cece are clear about what DC Film Co. is ultimately creating.

“Wedding filmmaking is ultimately about preserving a moment in time for families. The celebrations themselves pass quickly, but the film becomes something people return to over many years,” they say. “Our goal has always been to document those moments in a way that feels timeless, allowing the atmosphere of the celebration to speak for itself.”

DC Film Co. is available to work worldwide. With a selective calendar and experience spanning three continents, they are especially suited for destination celebrations, multi-day wedding weekends, or celebrations where the film is intended to become part of the family’s history.
