From the breathtaking mountains of Colorado to the sun-kissed shores of Greece, Paula B Photography has built a name synonymous with artistry and authenticity in the world of luxury wedding photography. With over 15 years of experience, Paula and her husband have mastered the craft of capturing love stories in a way that feels natural, refined, and deeply meaningful. We sat down with Paula to uncover her journey, philosophy, and passion for storytelling through the lens.
Paula's path to wedding photography wasn’t a conventional one. Growing up in the scenic countryside of Frederick, Maryland, she spent her days riding horses and capturing life’s little moments on disposable cameras. But photography wasn’t always the plan.
“I originally pursued a degree in communications with a focus in fashion public relations, never imagining photography would become my career,” Paula shares. “During my senior year of college, an independent photography course changed everything.”
That creative spark ignited a passion that soon became her life’s work. Over the years, Paula immersed herself in learning, working alongside some of the industry’s top photographers as a second shooter. This hands-on experience helped her refine her artistic vision, ultimately shaping the refined documentary-meets-editorial style she is known for today.
Paula and her husband, now a husband-and-wife photography duo, specialize in capturing weddings with a perfect blend of artistry and storytelling.
“We create images that are not only visually stunning but also deeply meaningful,” Paula explains. “Our work is rooted in thoughtfulness, seamlessly blending artistry and authenticity to preserve the beauty of celebrations and depth of human connection in a way that feels natural and effortless.”
As a hybrid film and digital photographer, Paula’s approach ensures a timeless and elegant aesthetic. Her Nikon digital cameras, paired with 35mm and medium-format film cameras, allow her to capture moments in a way that is both nostalgic and contemporary. She has even developed her own presets from scratch to ensure her digital images blend seamlessly with her film work.
“I couldn’t find an editing style that truly resonated with me, so I created my own presets from scratch,” she says. “My editing style is minimal, enhancing the natural essence of the day.”
Beyond the technical aspects of photography, what Paula cherishes most is the human connection.
“What imprinted on me the most has been creating genuine connections with people,” she says. “My work is inspired by their love, their life stories, and the people they surround themselves with.”
Traveling has also played a significant role in her journey. From capturing weddings in Greece and Mexico to frequent shoots in New York City, Paula finds endless inspiration in new environments.
“I would love to photograph weddings in Italy, France, Norway, or Scotland in the near future,” she shares. “However, I'd go back to Greece in a heartbeat—it was one of my favorite places I’ve visited.”
Yet, no matter how far she travels, Colorado remains a place of deep inspiration. “The stunning mountain landscapes and western influences provide endless inspiration for my work,” she says. “All that to say, I will always pursue destination weddings!”
Paula understands that every couple is unique, which is why she has moved away from pre-set photography packages.
“I offer fully customized wedding photography coverage, tailored to each client’s unique vision—no pre-set packages,” she explains. “This approach has streamlined my booking process, allowing me to fully cater to what my clients want for their wedding photography experience.”
From the initial consultation to the final delivery, Paula ensures a collaborative and stress-free experience.
“When working with clients, my goal is to create a personalized experience from start to finish,” she says. “Communication is at the core of this process—I make sure to engage in meaningful, open conversations with my clients to truly understand their needs and expectations.”
Her advice to couples preparing for their big day? Trust the process.
“I invite my couples to place their trust in me, knowing that I’ll guide them throughout the process to create meaningful, authentic photos that reflect their unique story.”
Reflecting on her career, Paula has one piece of advice she wishes she could give her younger self.
“To push my creativity further by experimenting with my photos and taking more risks in my artistry,” she says. “It's tempting to stick with the ‘safe’ shots, but challenge yourself to explore new perspectives and ideas, letting creativity lead the way.”
