Nikoll Dramaretska on the Weddings That Refuse to Be Forgotten

Most wedding photographers wouldn’t admit that an abandoned hangar stood out more than the luxury hotels and historic estates in their portfolio. But Nikoll Dramaretska does. She’s based in New York City and photographs weddings all over the country and abroad. Her career is built on capturing moments that can’t be repeated and being open about which ones truly made an impression on her.

A Photographer's Journey From Ukraine to New York

"My name is Nikoll, and I am a wedding photographer based in New York City," she tells.

Originally from Ukraine, I moved to the United States and turned my passion for storytelling into a full-time career. For the past five years, I have been documenting weddings and events, focusing on genuine emotions, meaningful connections, and timeless imagery. My style blends editorial elegance with candid moments, allowing couples to relive their wedding day exactly as it felt.

Her home base is New York, but her calendar rarely stays local. "I am based in New York City and primarily serve New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Long Island," she says. "I frequently travel for weddings and events throughout the United States, including Los Angeles, Miami, Texas, and Washington, D.C., and I am always excited to document celebrations in new destinations." She's also available for weddings worldwide, taking on destination celebrations wherever they happen.

Quality Over Quantity

Nikoll caps her calendar well below what her demand could probably support.

"I intentionally limit the number of weddings I take on through my own photography business each year, typically around 25-35, because I want every couple to receive a truly personalized experience rather than feeling like part of a production line."

The number is a means to an end, not the point itself. "My goal is for my clients to feel that on their wedding day, I am fully present, deeply invested, and completely immersed in telling their story," she notes. "Every wedding deserves creativity, attention to detail, and genuine care. I believe that by prioritizing quality over volume, I can create a more meaningful experience and deliver photographs that feel unique to each couple rather than a mass-produced product."

The Abandoned Hangar That Changed What She Thought a Wedding Venue Could Be

Five years and dozens of venues in, Nikoll has photographed weddings in the kinds of places most couples dream about - and the one that stuck with her most wasn't one of them. "I have photographed weddings in many beautiful venues across New York and beyond, from luxury hotels and historic estates to some of the region's most iconic wedding venues," she says softly. "Each location has had its own charm, but one of the most unforgettable was actually an abandoned hangar that had been transformed into a wedding venue."

"The design team worked magic on the space, bringing so much personality and character to what was once an industrial structure. It felt completely unique and unlike anything I had photographed before. The ceremony took place at sunset beneath a large tree overlooking a river, creating one of the most breathtaking and emotional settings I have ever witnessed. It was the perfect combination of nature, design, and storytelling."

It's the kind of location that also hints at where she'd like to point her camera next. "As someone who feels deeply connected to nature, I am especially drawn to locations that evoke a sense of freedom and wonder," Nikoll adds. "One of my dreams is to photograph a wedding in the desert or high in the mountains, surrounded by dramatic landscapes and thoughtful, unconventional design. I love celebrations that move beyond traditional hotel settings and instead embrace places with history, character, and a strong sense of identity."

Whether it’s a remote destination, a historic property, or a hidden gem in nature, I believe the most memorable weddings are the ones where every detail reflects the couple’s story. Those are the places that allow everyone to slow down, breathe deeply, and fully experience the magic of the day,

as she puts it.

What Still Inspires Her

After hundreds of weddings, it would be easy for the work to blur together. For Nikoll, it hasn't.

"People and their stories. Every wedding reminds me that love looks different for everyone," she explains. "Even after photographing many celebrations, I still find myself inspired by the way couples interact with each other, the emotions shared between family members, and the unique details that make every wedding feel personal." She points to travel, architecture, nature, fashion, and design as ongoing sources of inspiration, adding, "Most importantly, I never want my work to feel repetitive. Every couple deserves photographs that reflect who they are, not a formula repeated from one wedding to the next."

The Wedding She Named After a Stranger's Words

Nikoll has more than one wedding she could point to, but there's one story she tells with a different weight than the rest.

"One that will always have a special place in my heart was an American-Indian wedding at Blooming Hill Farm in the summer of 2025," she reflects. "Everything about that day felt magical: the venue, the people, the traditions, the weather, and the atmosphere. The ceremony took place outdoors beneath a beautiful tree, where the couple exchanged their vows. Their words were so heartfelt that nearly every guest was in tears. Even my husband, who was filming the wedding that day, was doing his best to hold back his emotions."

The image she keeps returning to didn't happen during the ceremony at all - it happened after the last song played. "What I remember most was the overwhelming feeling of love that surrounded everyone. At the very end of the night, after the DJ played the final song, one of the bride’s closest friends stood on the dance floor hugging guests and crying. She kept saying, “I can’t stop crying. I love them so much.” That moment stayed with me long after the wedding ended. In fact, when I delivered the gallery, I named it after those words."

Other memories arrive less as full stories and more as fragments she hasn't let go of. "There are so many other unforgettable memories," she says. "Weddings where brides cried happy tears throughout the entire day, where dance floors turned into wild celebrations, where brides cut their wedding dresses shorter so they could dance freely, and where couples shared the dance floor with their beloved dogs. I remember one groom whose pants ripped during the reception, yet he laughed it off and continued dancing all night. I remember bridal preparations taking place in a grandmother's apartment that felt more like a museum than a home, filled with antique cabinets, musical instruments, old books, and vintage posters. Every corner told a story."

Authenticity Over Perfection

"One thing many people are surprised to learn about me is that while I love beautiful venues and elegant details, what truly excites me is authenticity," Nikoll says.

As a photographer, I don't just document how a wedding looked. I want to preserve how it felt. The nervous excitement before the ceremony, the tears during the vows, the laughter during dinner, the wild energy on the dance floor, and the quiet moments that often go unnoticed.

Looking ahead, that pursuit shows no sign of narrowing. "One of my biggest goals is to continue photographing weddings around the world while pushing my creativity even further," she says. "I hope to work in extraordinary locations, collaborate with talented planners and designers, and continue telling stories that are honest, emotional, and timeless."

"At the end of the day, the photographs I value most are not the ones that are technically perfect. They are the ones that make people feel something years later," is how she describes it.
