Alessia on Why the Bride Should Never Look Like the Trend

A wedding dress arrives before any makeup does - and for Alessia, founder of Alaisa Makeup Studio, that's exactly where the real work begins. Based in Switzerland and working between there and Lake Como, where she was born and raised, Alaisa has spent ten years building a bridal makeup career around one idea: the look should come from the bride in front of them, not from a trend or a template.

It Starts With the Dress

"My inspiration often begins the moment I meet a bride and see her dress. I can already start imagining the final look, always taking into consideration her wishes and personal style. I believe the true artistry lies in creating a bespoke look for each bride, understanding her features, personality and overall vision, and bringing them together into something completely unique to her."

That refusal to default to a signature style shows up again when asked about favorite looks or trends. "I don't have one single favorite bridal look, because I believe every bride deserves a look created specifically for her," she says. 

I particularly love luminous, refined and timeless looks that enhance natural beauty without feeling heavy. I enjoy following current trends, but always reinterpret them in a personal way, so the result feels elegant today and timeless for years to come.

For brides who arrive without a clear idea of what they want, the process starts even further back. "When a bride isn't sure what style she wants, I take the time to understand her personality, personal style and what makes her feel most beautiful," Alessia notes. 

"I also consider her dress, the venue and the overall atmosphere of the wedding. From there, I guide her through different possibilities and create a look that feels natural, elegant and truly her."

The Wedding Morning Is Part of the Service

Larger bridal parties get a different kind of support than a solo booking. "I work both independently and with a trusted, established team of experienced professionals. Our strength lies in offering two specialized services, professional makeup and hairstyling, simultaneously, thanks to the collaboration between skilled beauty professionals. This allows us to significantly reduce preparation time while providing the bride with a complete, impeccable and detail-oriented service, even during the busiest wedding season and for larger bridal parties."

On the wedding morning itself, the goal is for none of that coordination to be visible to the bride. "My approach on the wedding morning is calm, organized and highly personalized. Everything is planned in advance, from the timeline to the coordination with the hairstylist and the other professionals involved. On the day, my priority is to create a relaxed atmosphere where the bride can enjoy the moment without feeling rushed. I take care of every detail, ensuring that the makeup is perfectly tailored to her and that she is ready on time, feeling confident, beautiful and completely herself." 

What draws her to this part of the job hasn't changed over the years. "What I love most about working with brides is being part of one of the most important moments of their lives," she reflects. "I love creating a calm, relaxed and positive atmosphere where the bride can feel comfortable, enjoy the moment and truly be herself. And seeing her expression and happiness when she sees her final look for the first time is truly priceless."

Lake Como Is Where the Story Started

"I am based in Switzerland and work between Switzerland and Lake Como, Italy. Born and raised in Como, I have a deep connection to the Lake Como area, where my professional journey began." 

That journey now covers considerable ground. "Lake Como, Bellagio, Varenna, Cernobbio and Lugano, including prestigious wedding venues such as Villa Regina Teodolinda, Villa d'Este, Villa del Balbianello, Villa Monastero and Villa Erba."

Beyond Italy and Switzerland, the work extends further still. "I am available worldwide for destination weddings, editorial projects and special events," she adds.

The career itself started well before the word "bridal" entered the picture. "I have been working in the beauty industry for 14 years and as a Makeup Artist for 10 years," explains Alessia. 

"My journey began with a passion for beauty and a desire to help women feel confident and beautiful in their own skin. Over the years, this passion grew into a career as a Makeup Artist, leading me to specialize in bridal makeup and work with brides in Lake Como, Switzerland and internationally."

Making It Last Through Tears, Heat, and Kisses

A wedding day puts makeup through more than an ordinary event does, and the preparation for that starts weeks in advance. 

Long-lasting makeup starts with proper skin preparation. Throughout our journey together, I guide each bride on how to care for and prepare her skin in the weeks leading up to the wedding, so she can arrive on the big day with the best possible canvas.

The products themselves get chosen with the day's specific demands in mind. "On the wedding day, I select products and techniques according to her individual needs, creating a flawless, comfortable and long-lasting look that can withstand everything that makes the day so special - tears, heat, kisses and countless emotions," she adds. 

The bridal beauty experience extends past makeup alone, too. "In addition to bridal makeup, I offer bridal hairstyling through my trusted team of professional hairstylists, as well as personalized skincare guidance in the weeks leading up to the wedding and touch-up kits when needed," she notes. 

"This allows us to provide a complete and coordinated bridal beauty experience, with makeup and hair working seamlessly together."

The Person Matters as Much as the Makeup

Asked what advice she'd give brides picking a makeup artist, Alessia's answer goes beyond portfolio style. "I would advise brides to choose a makeup artist whose style truly reflects what they love, but also someone they feel comfortable and confident with," she says. 

"Your makeup artist will be part of one of the most important mornings of your life, so trust, communication and feeling understood are just as important as the final look. I also recommend looking for a professional who takes the time to understand your skin, your personality and your vision, rather than simply recreating a trend."

That same philosophy carries into her closing advice for brides still planning. "My advice to every bride is to enjoy the journey, trust the professionals you choose and never feel the need to follow a trend that doesn't feel like you," she says.
