Sometimes the universe has the most incredible timing. Aashna and Raj's story begins with that familiar modern romance dance: matching on Hinge, meeting at a Brooklyn bar, and instantly clicking. But here's where their story gets real – and really romantic.
"We met on Hinge exactly two months before the whole world shut down! We met at a bar in Brooklyn, and little did we know that we had found each other's soul mate!" Aashna tells us. Then came the plot twist nobody saw coming. COVID-19 hit, borders closed, and suddenly, this New York pharmacist and Winnipeg data analyst found themselves navigating a brand-new relationship during a global pandemic. Talk about trial by fire!
But here's what we absolutely love about these two – they didn't let a little thing like international travel restrictions stop their love story. “Luckily, Raj was able to come travel that summer to NY because of work, and within a year we became official :)" The smiley face in that quote tells us everything we need to know about how they feel about that milestone moment.
After what felt like forever (okay, it was 1.5 years, but who's counting when you're in love?), Raj made the ultimate romantic gesture. "Raj moved to New York for his master's, and that started a new chapter for us." We're not crying, you're crying!
The proposal story? Pure Charleston magic. Raj had been building up to this moment since they first met, painting pictures of Charleston's beauty during his work trips there.
Picture this romantic scene: Raj made sure to have photographers hidden and picked a special spot under an old, large willow tree. When he got down and proposed, the photographers came out and captured the moment. We're getting goosebumps just thinking about it! As for whether Aashna saw it coming? She states that she kind of expected it; she knew the proposal was coming, but was unsure when. Smart woman – always be prepared for your fairytale moment!
"Fast forward 3.5 years later, we got married in a beautiful city, Los Cabos, Mexico, and couldn't be any happier." And honestly? We couldn't be happier for them.
We absolutely adore couples who know exactly what they want, and Aashna and Raj are prime examples. When we asked about their dream wedding vision, their answer was refreshingly honest and beautifully simple: "We both wanted a destination wedding somewhere tropical with our closest friends and family. We wanted tons of laughter, joy, and love, and nothing more." More? Who needs more when you have love, laughter, and 135 of your favorite people celebrating with you in paradise?
Their wedding style perfectly captured their personalities: "A tropical destination wedding with a mix of traditional and fusion food, dances, and customs." After a full year of planning (because good things take time), they crafted a celebration that was equal parts Pinterest-worthy and authentically them.
What inspired them most during the preparation? “Pinterest, Instagram, as well as our decor company, which was Zuniga." We love an honest couple who isn't afraid to admit they found inspiration everywhere – just like the rest of us!
And when we asked about the moment that will stay with them forever, their answer perfectly captured the magic of their day: "Looking at each other the minute we were officially married and feeling like we were on cloud nine." Pure wedding bliss right there!
Wedding morning energy is everything, and we love how hands-on this couple was from day one. Get this – they designed their own wedding invitations! Talk about couple goals and creative collaboration.
When it came to finding their perfect rings, they took the tried-and-true approach: they went to various jewelry stores and tried on all the different types. Sometimes the best method is the thorough method – try everything until you find "the one" (ring edition).
Their attention to detail extended to beautiful wedding day brochures designed by Moonlight Wedding decor, giving their guests a gorgeous keepsake that outlined the day's magical sequence of events.
Every detail, from the stationery to the sparkle, was infused with meaning and intention—proof that when love meets creativity, magic happens.
We've all heard horror stories about wedding dress shopping – months of trying on dress after dress, tears, indecision, family drama. Not Aashna! This bride knew her mind and trusted her instincts. Sahiba Fashions designed her dres. “I just knew this was the one once I tried it on," she states.
Her getting ready photos happened right in their resort rooms – creating intimate, relaxed vibes before the big moment. Aashna's final bridal look was absolutely stunning with traditional touches that honored her heritage: "Two shawls, as well as indian jewelry that was on my head, bangles on my arm, as well as garlands."
Her bouquet from Emporio was the perfect finishing touch. Those earthy, romantic tones perfectly complemented their color palette and the natural beauty of Los Cabos.
The bridesmaids looked gorgeous in dresses by Lashkarra, creating a cohesive bridal party that let Aashna shine while looking absolutely beautiful themselves.
Raj kept things classic and sharp with his look, designed by Aldo formal wear by Ken Lozano. His getting ready session was intimate and focused, allowing him to prepare mentally and emotionally for the biggest day of his life.
The first look happened in the privacy of their hotel room, and honestly, we're emotional just thinking about this moment. When we asked about Raj's first thought when he saw his bride, his answer was pure poetry: "That is my beautiful wife." Aashna's thoughts were equally swoon-worthy: "That is my handsome husband forever."
Those moments of quiet recognition – seeing your person, your forever person, dressed for your wedding day – are what fairy tales are made of.
Location scouting goals! This couple chose the perfect mix of settings for their pre-ceremony photos. "We chose to do some shots around the resort, then we went to the dunes for some amazing shots."
The resort provided that polished, luxurious backdrop, while the dramatic dunes gave them those sweeping, cinematic shots that make you feel like you're watching a romantic movie. Smart thinking!
Their ceremony location was absolutely dreamy: “On a garden that was located on the resort called Coda Garden.” Instead of a traditional wedding march, they chose something deeply meaningful - a traditional prayer. We love it when couples honor their heritage and spiritual beliefs in their ceremony choices. They made family the center of their celebration by choosing Raj's aunt and uncle instead of the traditional flower girl and ring bearer combo.
The ceremony itself beautifully honored their Sikh traditions: "We had a traditional Sikh ceremony which consists of 4 rounds, with the last round around the holy book officiates the marriage. After we had the doli take us out of the resort, and then when we came back, Rajs family greeted the couple, especially the new daughter-in-law in their family by performing some traditional customs."
The most magical moment? "Walking down the aisle and realizing this was the moment we have been waiting for." Chills. Literal chills.
Post-ceremony photos are where the celebration really begins, and these two chose locations that took our breath away. "We chose the dunes as well as the beach. The background for these shots was absolutely breathtaking and was exactly what our vision was."
The contrast between golden dunes and crystal blue ocean created the kind of backdrop that makes you want to get married all over again just for the photos!
Color palette perfection! A mix of Ivory, gold, and shades of brown - these warm, earthy tones created such an elegant and cohesive look that perfectly complemented the natural beauty of Los Cabos.
The personalized touches were everywhere and absolutely adorable: "Our wedding day had personalized brochures which explained the sequence of events. Our welcome bag consisted of personalized chapstick, welcome cards, and fans. We also had personalized cups that we used on our Haldi Boat party."
Their venue selection process was refreshingly practical: "After researching a bunch of resorts, Hard Rock Los Cabos seemed the best fit based on reviews and ratings." Sometimes the best choice is the most researched choice!
First dance song alert! The couple opted for Biblical by Calum Scott. If you know this song, you know it's absolutely perfect for a first dance – romantic, meaningful, and guaranteed to make everyone grab their tissues.
The food situation was next level: "We had dosas as well as 5 different flavored icecreams." Traditional Indian dosas AND five different ice cream flavors? This is our kind of reception menu! The chef at the resort created the wedding cake – because sometimes the best choice is right there at your venue, made fresh by talented professionals who know exactly what they're doing.
Their vendor team was absolutely incredible, and the couple couldn't be more grateful: "Every single vendor was super amazing and very attentive to our needs and concerns. They are the main reason our vision came to life, and we can't thank them enough."
From a Hinge match in Brooklyn to "I do" in paradise, Aashna and Raj proved that true love really can conquer anything – pandemics, long distance, and even wedding planning stress. Their Los Cabos celebration was more than just a destination wedding; it was the perfect beginning to their greatest adventure yet.
