Weston is American. Daniel is Scottish. And somehow, the universe conspired to place them both in the same corner of southern France on a year abroad — studying in Aix-en-Provence, a city that feels like it was made for falling in love.

"Daniel and I met 17 years ago on university year abroad studying in Aix-en-Provence," Weston shares. "We fell in love with each other in Provence, so it was a natural choice to plan a wedding in the magic of the South of France."

What makes this story even more breathtaking is the precision of their timing. They did not simply return to France to celebrate their love — they returned on the exact date it all began. "We married exactly 17 years to the day after we first met." That is the kind of romantic detail that makes hearts ache in the most beautiful way.

Weston proposed to Daniel in Provence in September 2023 — fitting, of course, that the question was asked in the very landscape that had witnessed the beginning of everything. After eighteen months of careful, loving planning, the wedding they had always imagined finally came to life.

About Your Wedding

With eighty guests travelling from across the world — from Scotland, from America, from all corners of the globe — Weston and Daniel were determined to make the experience more than just a single day. They wanted to wrap their guests in warmth, in beauty, in the very essence of what makes the South of France so intoxicating.

"As we were having a wedding abroad with our family and friends attending from far away, we wanted to make it really welcoming over several days across several venues," the couple explains. The celebration unfolded across three magical days. Thursday brought an intimate family dinner in Èze, perched on the cliffs above the sea. Friday welcomed all guests with a sunset welcome party at the Maybourne Riviera's legendary beach club. And Saturday? Saturday was the wedding itself.

The vision was clear from the start: "We wanted a modern wedding with a bit of Italian/Provence style thrown in. Our theme was relaxed Riviera." No rigid traditions. No performative formality. Just two people, deeply in love, celebrating that love in a place that had always felt like home.

Morning Details

The morning of the wedding hummed with quiet anticipation in the panoramic suite of the Maybourne Riviera — a room whose floor-to-ceiling views over the Mediterranean could make even the most composed person catch their breath.

Invitations had been created through Paperless Post — modern, clean, and in keeping with the couple's ethos. Their stationery was crafted by Encres et Nuances, lending an artisanal elegance to every detail guests would touch and hold.

For rings, they visited Cartier together. "We went to Cartier to select matching rings — Love rings with 3 diamonds," they tell us. There is something profoundly poetic about that choice: a ring literally called Love, worn by two men who had spent seventeen years proving what that word means.

Grooms Getting Ready

"Both grooms wore custom Brunello Cucinelli suits — we had them made on a holiday to Venice," they share with a quiet pride that is entirely earned. Paired with Brunello Cucinelli shoes, Weston completed his look with a Cartier Santos bracelet in white gold and a Cartier Juste un Clou bracelet in white gold — each piece chosen with the same care as every other element of the day.

And then there were the details that no one else in the room would see, but that both men would feel all day long. Weston wore his grandmother's pearl earring on his lapel. Daniel carried his grandmother's wedding ring in his pocket. Two women who shaped them, carried quietly into the most important day of their lives.

Getting ready took place in the panoramic suite of the Maybourne Riviera — golden light, sweeping sea views, and the particular electricity of a morning when everything is about to change. The photographs taken in that suite — bathed in Mediterranean light, the coastline stretching endlessly behind them — are the kind of images that stop you mid-scroll and refuse to let you go.

Ceremony

The ceremony took place on the lawn at the Maybourne Riviera — the sea spread out before them like something from a dream, the sky that particular shade of blue that only the Côte d'Azur can produce in June. True to their vision of a relaxed, non-traditional celebration, even the seating was reimagined. Guests were free to settle where they wished — no stiff rows, no sense of theatre, just a community gathered in love, on a clifftop above the sparkling Mediterranean.

Every element of this ceremony was chosen with intention: to honour who Weston and Daniel are, rather than who a wedding is traditionally expected to be. It was, by all accounts, exactly as romantic and exactly as meaningful as seventeen years of waiting deserved.

Wedding Venue & Decor

The Maybourne Riviera was not a venue chosen lightly. "We had stayed at the hotel previously and thought it was the perfect location for a modern, memorable experience that our guests would love," the couple says. It is one of those rare properties that manages to feel simultaneously grand and intimate — perched on the cliffside between Monaco and Menton, with views that draw gasps from even the most well-travelled guests.

The colour palette — shades of blue and lemon yellow, firmly anchored in the Italian Riviera aesthetic — ran through every detail. The entire space felt less like a decorated venue and more like a very beautiful, very considered version of the world Weston and Daniel have always inhabited.

And then there was Bruno — the couple's toy poodle, and the undisputed star of the wedding. "We wanted our toy poodle Bruno to feature on the menus and each guest's place setting at the dinner," they tell us. The designer created a watercolour illustration of the hotel, incorporating Bruno wearing sunglasses. His face was then stamped into a wax seal for each place setting. A little figurine of him sat on top of the wedding cake.

For guest gifts, Weston and Daniel curated a love letter to Provence itself. Calissons d'Aix from their beloved Béchard bakery. Olive oil from Moulin Castelas in Les Baux de Provence. A lemon soap from Fragonard. Packaged into beautiful gift bags for every guest to carry a little piece of the South of France back home with them. The thoughtfulness of it is simply staggering.

Reception

The reception dinner was held on the top floor of the Maybourne Riviera, with Michelin-starred Chef Jean-Georges at the helm — a menu built around the finest local ingredients, because Weston and Daniel believe that the best food is food that belongs to a place. The wedding cake was a modern tiered lemon cake with vanilla buttercream — bright, beautiful, and very Riviera. On its top: a little figurine of Bruno in his rightful place, surveying the room.

There was no traditional first dance, and the couple would not have had it any other way. "As we wanted this to be a modern, non-traditional wedding — because we are two grooms — we instead hired a saxophonist who covers beachy pop songs," they explain. "When the meal was over, she started playing and her interactions got everyone on the dancefloor straight away."

When we asked Weston and Daniel about the team that brought it all together, their answer was warm and immediate. "The team above was great. Thoughtful, anticipating our needs and flexible throughout. Excellent équipe!" And from everything we can see — the seamless flow across three days, the exquisite details, the evident joy of every guest — we believe every word of it.
