Love Story

Raymond Grewal and Jessica Gill’s love story began at a wedding in 2017—the same kind of celebration that would later bring their journey full circle.
A jersey sparked it all. Jessica noticed Raymond wearing her favorite soccer player’s shirt, and that small moment opened the door to something lasting. What began as a casual conversation grew into a connection that would be tested — and strengthened — by distance.
At that time in 2017, Jessica was living in Sherwood Park, Alberta, while Raymond was studying in Vancouver. Shortly thereafter, their relationship became entirely long-distance. Later, when Raymond moved to Europe to play professional hockey for a year, the distance between them widened further.
“Despite the distance — and sometimes entire continents between us — we spoke every single day,” Jessica shares. “We supported each other through everything.”
Raymond balanced varsity and professional hockey while completing his Bachelor of Commerce and earning his CFA designation. Jessica devoted eight years to becoming a lawyer. Their love story was never about convenience — it was about commitment.
Over the years, they’ve explored more than 16 countries together, bonding over sports, fitness, skiing trips, hiking adventures, and international travel. Eventually, Barcelona became the backdrop for the next chapter of their relationship.
“It was in Barcelona,” Jessica recalls. “We had planned a photoshoot, which was normal for us when travelling. At the start of the photoshoot, he got down on one knee. I was not expecting it at all.”
What began at a wedding in 2017 came full circle years later as their own extraordinary Sikh wedding celebration—one built on resilience, ambition, and unwavering support.

About Your Wedding

With 600–700 guests in attendance, Jessica and Raymond’s wedding in Sherwood Park, Alberta, was not just an event — it was an immersive, week-long celebration of culture, family, and legacy.
Planning took about a year and a half, though the vision had been quietly forming for much longer.
“While I initially envisioned a destination wedding, we ultimately chose to celebrate closer to home so that every member of our family could be present,” Jessica explains.
Rather than sacrificing the atmosphere, her parents brought the destination home. Their backyard was transformed into a world entirely removed from Edmonton — lush, intentional, indulgent, and deeply rooted in Sikh tradition.
“The vision was unmistakably my mother’s,” Jessica says. “She imagined an immersive, week-long celebration and executed it with extraordinary precision and heart.”
Inspired by Indian celebrity and billionaire weddings discovered on Instagram, Jessica’s mother curated every detail across multiple events — from Mehndi to Sangeet to the Anand Karaj ceremony and the black-and-white reception at Evario Events Centre.
The result? An elevated, classically luxurious wedding — lavish in detail, timeless in design, and deeply intentional in execution.

Morning Details

Every detail of Jessica and Raymond’s Sikh wedding week reflected intention, heritage, and deeply personal craftsmanship, woven seamlessly into each celebration. The invitations were thoughtfully designed by Jessica’s mother in collaboration with Harjeet Invitations in Punjab, while the wedding stationery and custom signage came to life with the help of MegaSigns in Edmonton, Signflo, and White Lilac Details. Personalized sweet boxes, bindis, and thank-you cards added another meaningful layer, ensuring guests felt immersed in the experience from the very beginning. In the months before the wedding, the couple had their rings custom-made in Vancouver. These were symbolic pieces, chosen carefully to represent their journey. Throughout the week, Jessica wore real gold jewelry from India. Each look carried cultural depth and timeless elegance. The morning was never about extravagance for its own sake. It was about honoring tradition, family, and the meaning behind each detail.

Bride Getting Ready

Jessica prepared for her ceremony inside her family home, surrounded by familiarity and emotion. Her getting-ready photoshoot took place in the family room — intimate, warm, personal.
Throughout the wedding week, she wore creations by renowned Indian designers:
Maihma Mahajan for Mehndi
Payal Keyal for Sangeet
Rimple and Harpreet for the wedding ceremony
Mukul Arora for the reception
“We traveled from Canada to India specifically for wedding shopping,” Jessica says. “I knew which designers resonated with me, but envisioning the final looks required a leap of faith.”
Because fittings weren’t possible until the garments arrived in Canada, alterations were completed locally. Everything came together exactly as imagined.
For the ceremony, she paired her look with Jimmy Choo heels, real gold jewelry from India, bangles, and a custom kalira by Mrinalini Chandra.
Her bouquet was designed by The Banyan Collection Decor — fresh florals that complemented the soft pink and pastel ceremony palette.

Groom Getting Ready

Raymond prepared for the day at the hotel, surrounded by his closest friends and family, bringing a sense of calm focus to the hours before the ceremony. His tuxedo, sourced from The Tux Store in Vancouver, reflected a classic and refined aesthetic — understated yet perfectly tailored for the occasion. Though composed on the outside, months of anticipation had quietly brought this moment to fruition. “I felt very happy and excited to finally be doing the wedding after so much anticipation,” Raymond says.

First Look

Their first look unfolded naturally during the ceremony itself, the moment Jessica began walking down the aisle, and the anticipation of the entire week crystallized into a single glance. Raymond remembers that instant vividly: “I thought the pink looked amazing on her. It was such a perfect colour for her. She had dressed up before, but this was the most special. She had never looked more beautiful.” For him, it was a culmination of months of waiting, planning, and imagining the day finally coming to life.
Jessica, on the other hand, was caught between emotion and excitement, her thoughts racing as she stepped forward. “Finally, we’re here — and I can’t wait until the ceremony is over!” she laughs. “I was also happy that his pagh was tied perfectly.” In that shared exchange of glances — equal parts heartfelt and lighthearted — their ceremony truly began.

Ceremony

The Anand Karaj ceremony unfolded in Jessica’s childhood backyard, which had been completely transformed into an ethereal setting layered in pinks, greens, and soft pastels. Rooted in Sikh tradition, the ceremony centered around the four lavan — sacred circles taken together around the Guru Granth Sahib — symbolizing their spiritual union and shared path forward. Jessica’s best friend, Noor, held their rings and the marriage certificate, standing close as both witness and steady presence during one of the most meaningful moments of the week.
The wedding celebrations themselves had been building for days through a series of deeply cherished traditions: an intricate Mehndi where henna adorned Jessica’s hands, arms, and feet; a vibrant Sangeet filled with music and choreographed performances; intimate Mayian ceremonies where haldi was applied to bless the couple with a radiant glow; and Raymond’s family’s Jaggo, where relatives danced, sang boliyan, and carried decorated vessels to share their joy with the community. One of the most unforgettable highlights came during the Sangeet. “We choreographed a dance for the Sangeet,” Jessica shares. “We picked about four songs and practiced for months to surprise everyone.”

A special mention to the stunning outfit designed by Nikhal Sasha Sharma, designer from Delhi, who created Raymond’s looks so beautifully.

The ceremony was made even more divine and memorable as it was performed by one of the most renowned Keertan artists, Bhai Maninder Singh Ji Srinagar Wale. His presence and soulful Keertan brought such a deep spiritual essence to the Anand Karaj.

Wedding Venue & Decor

Jessica’s childhood home became the foundation of the celebration — not simply a venue, but a place layered with memory, history, and family significance. Hosting the wedding week there allowed every event to feel deeply personal, while the reception transitioned seamlessly to Evario Events Centre, an elegant space owned by a close family friend. With its refined interiors and attached hotel, it offered both sophistication and ease, especially for Raymond’s family traveling from out of town. Each event carried its own visual identity. Color played a powerful role in storytelling throughout the week. The Mehndi glowed in coral tones. The Sangeet unfolded in deep red richness. Mayan ceremonies embraced yellow and green, while Raymond’s Mayan introduced bold blue. For the Anand Karaj, the palette softened into pinks, greens, and pastels. The reception shifted dramatically to a refined mix of black, white, and brown. Decor was handled by Majestic Weddings and Dreams Unlimited Decor. The Banyan Collection Decor provided fresh florals, creating luxurious yet culturally grounded environments at each stage.

Reception

The reception at Evario Events Centre introduced a dramatic shift in mood, with a refined black, white, and brown palette creating a modern contrast to the soft pastels of the ceremony. Jessica and Raymond shared their first dance to “Until I Found You” by Stephen Sanchez, a moment that set an emotional tone before the evening unfolded into celebration.
Indian cuisine was served throughout the wedding week, honoring tradition, while the Sangeet featured custom drinks and the reception surprised guests with pizza as a midnight snack — a playful, personal touch. One of the most unforgettable moments came unexpectedly: “Right after the ceremony at the hotel, everyone changed into casual clothes, the music came on, and it turned into the most spontaneous dance party,” Jessica says. “We hadn’t planned anything special — but it was the most joyful and relaxed celebration.”
The wedding cake was crafted by Cake Couture Edmonton, and the day was beautifully captured by Impressions by Mohit, along with Cinematic Films and True Flash Studio. “They were all so amazing and so professional,” Jessica shares. “They felt like family and made sure everything ran smoothly.”
Jessica and Raymond’s Sherwood Park wedding was more than a 700-guest celebration. It was a full-circle love story — from meeting at a wedding to hosting one of their own — built on years of distance, ambition, culture, and unwavering partnership. A wedding that honored tradition. A celebration that embraced luxury. A love proven across continents.
