Estevan and Michael’s love story began in an unexpected way, woven together by fate. Although their first meeting came through Estevan’s ex-boyfriend, they both see their "second" encounter, when their paths crossed online, as the true beginning of something special. Their connection deepened quickly, but the pandemic soon tested their bond, pulling them into a seven-month long-distance relationship despite living just three miles apart. Their courtship was marked by quiet, intimate backyard dates and peaceful hikes—simple moments that allowed their love to grow stronger and set the foundation for a future they knew they were meant to share.
The proposal took place on a breathtaking Malibu beach during Michael’s 30th birthday, a perfect setting for such a heartfelt moment. Estevan had gently led Michael to believe he wasn’t ready for marriage, making the moment he dropped to one knee all the more surprising, a beautiful twist in their story. A week later, Michael returned the gesture with a proposal of his own, this time in front of his mother and family. This beautiful exchange marked the start of their 18-month journey together, planning a wedding filled with love, laughter, and the promise of a lifetime ahead.
For Estevan, the Chief of Staff for LA County Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath, and Michael, a Hollywood Screenwriter turned Standup Comedian, creating their dream wedding was a deeply personal endeavor. “We are both Mexican so we thought it would be amazing to have a wedding in Mexico,” Estevan shares. “I love the water so it was important to also have water be a part of the wedding. Michael loves a party vibe so Cabo gave us everything we wanted. Both our mothers immigrated from Mexico so there is a special meaning to being back in their home country."
The couple decided to host a three-day wedding extravaganza in Los Cabos, Mexico, featuring three different themed events and a celebrity guest performance by RuPaul Drag Queen superstar Alyssa Edwards. The events began with a "Fiesta Blanca," a white welcome party in a blooming garden venue in Cabo San Lucas. This initial celebration featured a hand-painted pink piñata bar, a Baja donkey, delicious farm-to-table appetizers, and a Mexican doll with a skirt made of tequila shots.
Their rehearsal dinner embraced a "Jungle Chic" theme in the lush tropical oasis of Acre Resort. Here, Estevan and Michael visited rescue dogs before settling down for dinner with loved ones in Acre's open-air Blue Room. The main event—their wedding day—brought their "Haute Tamale - colorful, sexy, and disco fabulousness" theme to life at the beachfront Cape Hotel. The venue offered a unique masculine design aesthetic with the Sea of Cortez and famous landmark, Land's End, providing a breathtaking backdrop.
“The vision for the wedding was created after walking into Dolce and Gabbana in Beverly Hills on Rodeo Drive. We found these stunning sequin jackets in cheetah and snow leopard prints this was the basis for the wedding vision,” the couple shares.
The morning of their wedding day found the soon-to-be-married couple buzzing with excitement in the penthouse of The Cape Hotel. Everything had been personalized to reflect their unique style and vision. "The most personal touch were the custom menus designed to mirror our Dolce and Gabbana sequin tuxedos," Michael explains. "They were so elegant and so unique to our wedding. We wanted menus that had never been used before at any wedding we’ve attended."
Over the three days, the couple incorporated numerous personalized elements: "The most fun were the hand painted pink bar and with hanging piñatas at the Welcome Party, and the tablecloths with Mexican detail," Estevan shares.
In the spacious penthouse at The Cape Hotel, Michael prepared for the ceremony surrounded by an atmosphere of anticipation and joy. For their wedding weekend, the couple had carefully curated a wardrobe that reflected the themes of each celebration and ultimately influenced many design aspects of their events.
Their wedding looks evolved over the three-day celebration, beginning with custom Zegna suits for the Welcome Party, complemented by shoes from Taft and Fratelli Rossetti, and accessories by Gucci and Versace. For the Rehearsal Dinner, they selected suits by Bode paired with Tom Ford and Taft footwear.
The wedding day itself called for statement pieces that had become the foundation of their entire wedding concept. Michael's ensemble featured a custom Dolce & Gabbana tuxedo with a show-stopping sequin jacket, Dolce & Gabbana shirts, and Christian Louboutin shoes. The discovery of these distinctive sequin jackets at Dolce and Gabbana's Beverly Hills store on Rodeo Drive had been the catalyst for their wedding vision, inspiring everything from the color palette to the reception menus, which were designed to mirror the jackets' patterns.
Michael's pink wedding bouquet, created by florist Lola del Campo, perfectly complemented his attire and reinforced the pink and green color scheme that dominated their wedding design. This fusion of colors represented both grooms' preferences—Michael's love for vibrant pink and Estevan's desire to incorporate Los Cabos' natural greenery.
The floral design extended beyond the bouquets to create a comprehensive aesthetic throughout all three events. For the Welcome Party, Lola del Campo used flowers of all colors with a traditional Mexican style to create a "kermes" atmosphere. The Rehearsal Dinner featured earth tones with dry touches, while the wedding day transformed the venue with David Austin roses, orchids, tulips, anthuriums, proteas, and countless varieties of leaves and ferns. These botanical elements adorned everything from the boutonnières to the tables, creating 16-foot tall wall installations and dramatic hanging arrangements above the dance floor.
The getting-ready photoshoot took place in the penthouse, capturing the moments of anticipation and the stunning attire that had influenced so much of their celebration's design.
The couple's first look took place on the private terrace of their penthouse at The Cape Hotel, with the iconic Lands' End and the merging of the two oceans—the Sea of Cortez and Pacific Ocean—creating a breathtaking backdrop. "We both cried!" the couple admits. That private moment, high above the ocean with just the two of them, became one of the couple's most treasured memories of the day.
