There is a quiet kind of confidence that follows storytellers who truly love what they do — and with Lotte Schouten of Amari Films, that feeling is unmistakable. Based in the Netherlands and filming weddings across Europe, she has built a brand rooted in tenderness, authenticity, and the belief that love deserves to be documented with artistry and intention.
From turning down a promising producer role in Amsterdam to dedicating herself completely to weddings, Lotte’s journey reflects something rare: a creative who chose passion first — and never looked back.
They told me that if I ever got bored of all the lovey-dovey couples, I could come back to be a producer. But that hasn’t crossed my mind once.
Today, she is known for films that feel elegant yet deeply emotional, balancing the world of fashion-forward visuals with the heartbeat of real love stories. And the result? A body of work that couples describe as timeless, romantic, and profoundly meaningful.
Finding Her Path
When Lotte filmed her very first wedding in 2016, she had no idea it would reshape her entire career path. After an internship at a commercial production company in Amsterdam, she was offered a stable position as a producer — something many young filmmakers would dream of. But her instincts told her to choose differently.
“I followed my heart and chose to work full-time on my wedding videography business. I love my job and I couldn’t imagine doing anything different!”
She officially stepped fully into wedding filmmaking in 2020, transforming a “side job” into a thriving, full-time brand. What started as 10 weddings a year has grown into a creative life built around documenting love in its most genuine form.

Her films feel soft yet intentional, emotional yet polished — guided by her instinct for clean compositions, cinematic movement, and the subtle details that reveal who a couple really is. It’s no surprise she’s become a favorite among couples seeking a modern yet heartfelt approach.
And, true to her belief in presence over equipment, her setup remains deliberately minimal:
“Less is really more for me.”
She currently works with a Sony FX3, her go-to 28–70mm Sony lens, and carefully selected audio gear — a kit designed not to distract from what matters most.
“A minimal setup keeps me mobile and fully present throughout the wedding… and stay focused on the couple’s story, authentic emotions, and my creativity.”
Of all her answers, this one radiates pure enthusiasm. Lotte lights up when she talks about the privilege of being invited into personal, emotional milestones.
“Celebrating love is truly something so special. I get endlessly inspired by people's connections, love stories, their vows, speeches, emotions, their venues and their details.”
She admires the artistry in fashion, the beauty of spaces, the atmosphere created by thoughtful planning — but it’s the emotion behind it all that anchors her.
Her sense of community within the wedding world is equally strong:
“Through the wedding industry, I get to meet the most amazing vendors… We all love love, and isn’t that the best thing you can have in common?”
The Relationship Comes First
Before pressing record, Lotte focuses on understanding the couple as people — not just clients.
“I start by getting to know my couples on a personal level… I want to know their story, what matters most to them.”
This foundation of trust allows her to create films that feel honest and natural. On the wedding day, she becomes a seamless part of the celebration — supportive, warm, attentive, and fully invested.
“I'm not only their wedding videographer, but also a friend who helps with the dress, brings them a drink, and does a little dance with Aunt Susan on the dance floor. :)”
During editing, she returns to their questionnaire answers to guide the emotional structure of the film, ensuring every detail feels personal and deeply reflective of the couple.
Among the many pieces of wisdom she’s gathered over the years, one stands out clearly:
“Don't underestimate the beauty of the getting-ready part of the day.”
Those first hours are filled with vulnerability, anticipation, laughter, and sentiment — a foundation for everything that follows. Lotte encourages couples to slow down, savor the rituals, and allow the emotional tone of the day to unfold naturally.
Reflecting on her journey, she wouldn’t rewrite much.
“Every mistake, every challenge, every 'wrong turn' taught me something valuable and shaped me who I am as a videographer today.”
But if she could whisper one message to the girl starting her business?
“Be patient with yourself. Building a business takes time… Every couple you film, every wedding you experience teaches you something new.”
Travel is a source of inspiration and energy for Lotte, and she thrives in new environments.
“It gives me so much creativity and energy to work at beautiful places and countries all over the world.”
Italy holds a special place in her heart, but truly — Europe is her playground, and every new location feels like a blank canvas for storytelling.
