Michelle Elyse Photography’s journey into the world of wedding photography is as natural as the moments she captures. “I've always been drawn to photographing weddings,” she explains, reflecting on her deep connection to the vibrant energy that weddings bring. "I love the festive ambiance, the beautiful fashions and decor, and I also really love just capturing real moments as they unfold- which weddings are so full of."
With over 13 years of experience in the field, Michelle has developed a signature style that she fondly calls "effortlessly glamorous documentary." This unique blend of elegance and authenticity shines through in every image she produces, allowing her clients to relive their day through photos that feel both candid and chic. "The current buzzword is editorial," she says, noting that this term is often used to describe her work. "Although that term can mean different things to different people it seems. My favorite thing to capture is when my couples allow themselves to just be truly wrapped up in the moments enjoying their day- when they don't even notice me catching them from their best angles- looking beautiful and having the time of their lives."
When asked how long she’s been a wedding photographer, Michelle beams with pride: “I have been so lucky to have been photographing weddings for over 13 years now and could not love it more.” Her enthusiasm is infectious, and it’s clear that this is more than just a job for her—it’s a passion.
Every wedding is a new opportunity for her to embrace the unexpected. "Even if it's at the same venue, every day is completely different from the other and I thrive on that variety," she says. Whether it’s the unique personalities of the couple, the specific cultural or familial traditions, or even just the change in fashion and scenery, Michelle revels in the challenge of capturing something new and authentic every time. "The people, the families, fashions, foods, dance parties, scenery- you name it."
Michelle’s photography style is all about blending ease with elegance. “I'm very go-with-the-flow and laid back, but I also love being fancy - so the world of weddings just have always been a very natural fit for me,” she says with a laugh. This balance of relaxation and sophistication is what makes her work stand out. Her clients don’t just look good in photos—they look like the best versions of themselves, in moments of pure, unscripted joy.
Michelle prides herself on creating an environment where her clients feel comfortable and celebrated. “I really just want my clients to feel comfortable and celebrated for being themselves,” she says earnestly. To her, every couple is different, and that individuality should be honored in their photos. "Every session is a little bit different because each person has their own personality that I honor and lean into."
Fun is another key element in her sessions. "Above all I want them to have fun- so that's the priority in whatever we do," she emphasizes. This focus on creating a relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere allows couples to let loose and embrace the magic of their wedding day, resulting in photos that feel genuine and full of life.
When it comes to client collaboration, Michelle is flexible and attentive. She typically creates custom packages that meet her clients' specific needs. Whether it’s a shorter coverage time or a more extensive day-of shoot, she tailors each experience to ensure that her couples feel supported and understood throughout the process.
Michelle is a firm believer in using the best tools to capture the most meaningful moments. "Currently, I use all Canon cameras, lenses, and flashes," she explains. Her choice of equipment allows her to capture every detail with precision and clarity, ensuring that the emotions of the day are preserved beautifully.
But her work doesn’t stop once the wedding is over. Michelle also carefully edits her photos, enhancing their natural beauty while maintaining an authentic feel. She likes to give her clients a final product that not only reflects the real emotions of the day but also elevates them with her signature glamorous touch.
Michelle’s love for weddings extends far beyond her home base. For her, the appeal of destination weddings lies not just in the stunning locations, but in the once-in-a-lifetime experiences that come with them. "Gosh, its hard to name a favorite. St. Lucia was gorgeous and I'll be going back."
She’s had the chance to travel to some truly unique places as part of her work. “I've done many weddings in Iceland. There are several others too, but I think the one that pops out in my head when asked that question is Greenland just because it's so off the beaten path,” she recalls. One wedding, in particular, was especially memorable: "It was so special to be able to see the Northern Lights, and the sled dogs, and go on an iceberg boat tour with my clients. It was so special."
