Every wedding holds hundreds of fleeting moments — laughter between friends, quiet glances between partners, the warm presence of family gathered in one place. Capturing those moments in a way that feels honest and cinematic is the essence of the work created by Vanessa da Silva and Ivo Silva, the creative duo behind Vanessa & Ivo.

Since 2012, the pair has documented more than three hundred weddings across the world, blending film-inspired visuals with a deeply human approach to storytelling. Their films are known for their intimacy, quiet observation, and elegant pacing — creating cinematic narratives that feel both personal and timeless.

We spoke with Vanessa and Ivo about their journey into wedding filmmaking, their collaborative creative process, and why the smallest moments often become the most powerful parts of a wedding film.

Two Backgrounds, One Shared Vision

The partnership behind Vanessa & Ivo began with two different creative paths that naturally complemented each other.

We started filming weddings in 2012, and since then our work has taken us to many different places around the world, allowing us to meet and collaborate with incredible couples and talented professionals along the way.

Ivo’s background is strongly rooted in film and technology.

“Ivo is definitely the more tech-oriented half of the team, always exploring new tools and gadgets that can expand the possibilities of wedding filmmaking.”

His academic training reflects that passion for cinema.

“He holds a degree in Film with a specialization in Editing and Sound Design, as well as a master’s degree in Directing.”

Before weddings entered the picture, he worked in agencies and production companies, building the technical foundation that now shapes their films.

Vanessa’s path was slightly different but equally creative.

“Vanessa studied Communication and spent some time working with a theater production company, which shaped her sensitivity to storytelling, rhythm, and human connection.”

Together, their complementary perspectives allow them to create wedding films that feel both technically refined and emotionally nuanced.

“We combine our different backgrounds to create films that feel both cinematic and deeply personal.”

More Than a Decade in Wedding Filmmaking

For Vanessa and Ivo, wedding filmmaking quickly evolved from an exploration into a long-term creative commitment.

“We’ve been dedicated wedding videographers since 2012.”

Over the years, their work has taken them to celebrations across continents, allowing them to document weddings in diverse cultural settings while collaborating with planners, photographers, and creative teams from around the world.

Each new location adds its own atmosphere to the stories they capture.

A Style Inspired by Cinema and Fashion

Ask Vanessa and Ivo to describe their aesthetic, and the influence of cinema becomes immediately clear.

“Our style is influenced by cinema and fashion.”

But rather than focusing only on visuals, their goal is to reflect the couple’s true identity.

“We focus on creating intimate, carefully crafted films and photographs that reflect the true essence of the couples who trust us with their wedding day year after year.”

Their films often feel immersive — allowing viewers to experience not just the events of the day, but the emotions that unfolded throughout it.

Choosing Equipment That Supports Storytelling

While technology plays an important role in filmmaking, Vanessa and Ivo always view equipment as a tool rather than the focus.

At the moment we work mainly with Sony cinema and mirrorless cameras, which give us the reliability, dynamic range, and low-light performance we need to document weddings in a natural and unobtrusive way.

In some projects, they also introduce a nostalgic visual element.

“Alongside our digital cameras, we also use a Canon Super 8 camera when the project calls for it.”

The distinctive texture of analog film adds an unexpected dimension.

“The texture and imperfection of 8mm film add a beautiful, timeless layer that contrasts nicely with the precision of digital capture.”

Ultimately, every tool serves the same goal.

“Our approach to equipment is always guided by storytelling.”

The Atmosphere That Makes Weddings Unique

For Vanessa and Ivo, one of the most inspiring aspects of weddings is the collective energy of the people involved.

“What we enjoy most is that weddings are truly happy days. Everyone is dressed beautifully, people have traveled, they’re relaxed, and they’re surrounded by the people they love the most.”

Weddings create a rare environment where multiple worlds intersect.

“Friends and families often come from different parts of the world just to celebrate together.”

That sense of gathering is what makes weddings so special to document.

“Where else do you see that kind of energy and emotion all in one place?”

Listening First, Filming Second

Every project begins with understanding the couple and their story.

“Our process always begins with listening.”

Rather than approaching weddings with a fixed structure, Vanessa and Ivo allow each celebration to shape the film organically.

“Each wedding is different because of the people who are part of it — the families, the friends, the energy in the room.”

By absorbing the atmosphere of the day, the story reveals itself naturally.

“The film naturally reflects the people, the emotions, and the environment of the celebration.”

They also work closely with the planning team to understand the rhythm of the event.

“We work closely with the couple and their planner to understand the rhythm of the day and the moments that matter most.”

On the wedding day, their presence is intentionally calm and unobtrusive.

“We mostly document what unfolds naturally, but we also offer gentle guidance when needed so couples feel comfortable in front of the camera.”

And of course, they always keep the atmosphere light.

“Having fun helps everyone relax, which often leads to the most genuine moments.”

Advice for Couples Planning Their Wedding

When couples ask how to create meaningful wedding films, Vanessa and Ivo encourage openness and authenticity.

“Talk to us. Tell us how you met, what brought you together, and why you are getting married.”

Understanding those personal details helps shape the narrative of the film.

They also encourage couples to embrace the planning process.

“Enjoy the planning process and share your thoughts openly with the people involved in your wedding.”

Their final piece of advice is simple but heartfelt.

“Always choose to have video. Years from now, it will be one of the most powerful ways to return to that day.”

Unlike photographs, video captures motion, voice, and atmosphere.

“To see your favorite people moving, talking, laughing, and dancing again is something photographs alone cannot fully recreate.”

Destination Weddings Around the World

Travel has been a defining part of Vanessa & Ivo’s work.

“Yes, we do destination weddings and they have been a big part of our work over the years.”

Each destination contributes its own character to the story.

Among all the places they have visited, one stands out.

“One of our favorite places to work is Lake Como.”

Its scenery offers a particularly cinematic environment.

“The landscape, the villas, and the way the light reflects on the water create an incredible setting for weddings and for filmmaking.”

The Weddings That Stay With You

After filming more than two hundred celebrations, choosing a single unforgettable wedding is nearly impossible.

“Some weddings we remember because of the families and the energy they brought to the day. Others because of the food, the place, or the photographers we worked with.”

Often, it is the atmosphere that lingers most.

“In the end, what stays with us most are the people and the atmosphere each wedding creates.”

Every celebration leaves behind its own memory.

Unexpected Moments That Become Magic

Sometimes the most memorable scenes arrive unexpectedly.

“One of the most unexpected moments we’ve ever seen happened when a small plane suddenly flew over the wedding and released hundreds of flower petals over the guests.”

Moments like that transform the entire atmosphere of a celebration — and the story captured on film.

The Quiet Moments That Matter Most

Among the countless scenes captured during a wedding day, Vanessa and Ivo find particular beauty in quiet simplicity.

“One moment that always makes us smile is when the couple is simply standing together in silence, looking at each other while we’re filming.”

In those seconds, the energy of the day fades away.

“You can see them truly taking in what is happening.”

And some moments remain emotionally powerful no matter how many weddings they film.

“For us, it’s always the moments shared between the couple and their parents.”

Those exchanges carry a unique emotional depth.

“There is something deeply emotional in those exchanges.”

For Vanessa & Ivo, wedding filmmaking is not simply about documenting events. It is about preserving the feeling of a moment — the laughter, the quiet pauses, the connections between people.

Because long after the music fades and the guests return home, those moments become the memories couples return to again and again.
