Some artists are born into their craft. For others, like Matthew Greer, it reveals itself slowly — through experimentation, long hours behind the lens, and an unexpected shift in direction that becomes life-changing.

I’m Matthew, a Dublin-based luxury wedding videographer,” he says with a calm confidence that mirrors his cinematic style. “My background is in commercial filmmaking, learning my craft whilst working at one of Dublin's top production companies.

Those years of commercial experience became his technical backbone. But something was missing — emotional depth, human connection, meaningful storytelling. Weddings filled that gap.

“Since 2016, I've captured weddings throughout Europe & Ireland finding a love for capturing and telling a couple's story.”

What began as an experiment became a passion. And eventually, a signature.

Nine Years of Crafting Stories That Feel Alive

When asked how long he has been filming weddings, Matthew’s answer is simple but powerful:

“9 Years.”

Nine years of documenting vows whispered at sunset, tears that can’t be held back, laughter that bursts out spontaneously, and families celebrating love in their own unique ways.

Each film carries his unmistakable balance of tenderness and cinematic precision.

Candid Meets Cinematic: The Dear Oliver Style

Matthew’s films are rooted in feeling — not formulas.

“My style is a blend of candid, natural moments and cinematic documentary storytelling. I focus on natural, candid storytelling that captures genuine emotions as they unfold.”

This philosophy shapes every decision he makes behind the camera. It’s not about staging or performance — it’s about truth.

“Our films are designed to capture the experience, fun, joy and emotion of the day.”

The result? Wedding films that feel not just beautifully shot, but deeply lived.

Tools of the Trade: A Filmmaker’s Palette

Great storytelling requires great tools — not for show, but for possibility.

Matthew works with:

Sony FX3 cameras, a mixture of lenses, audio recorders, drone, tripods, lights, and more.

Professional, precise, discreet — just like his approach.

The Heart of the Work: Meaning, People, Connection

What keeps him inspired after nearly a decade? It’s not the gear. It’s not the settings. It’s not even the travel.

Ultimately, it's meaningful work. Wedding films are personal and so much more meaningful than commercial projects that don't live past the delivery date.

And then, his eyes light up as he adds:

“Getting to meet amazing couples, and capture incredible experiences is the best part of the job.”

This is what sets Dear Oliver apart — the heart behind the camera.

A Gentle Presence: How Matthew Works with Couples

His method is calm, considered, and rooted in intention.

“I start by asking thoughtful questions to truly get to know each couple, and understand the vision for their wedding.”

This early connection becomes his roadmap. It’s how he prepares without over-directing.

“After learning as much as I can I show up prepared to document without interrupting special moments, allowing couples to focus on themselves and their loved ones and elevate the experience in whatever way possible.”

It’s filmmaking that respects space, emotion, and the natural flow of the day.

Advice for Couples: Let Go and Live the Moment

When Matthew speaks to couples planning their wedding, his message is beautifully simple:

“Trust your suppliers and enjoy the day. The best moments happen when you let go of perfection and immerse yourself in the experience.”

It’s the kind of wisdom that only comes from filming hundreds of real love stories.

A Note to His Younger Self

If he could go back to the beginning of his career, Matthew would say:

“Focus on storytelling, not trends. Build relationships with people who align with your values, and never stop refining your craft. The work that feels most true to you will always resonate the most.”

A philosophy that clearly guides every Dear Oliver film today.

The World Beyond Dublin: A Love for Destination Weddings

Yes, I've been fortunate to capture a few weddings around Europe to date, my favourite so far being the Amalfi Coast.

Sun-drenched cliffsides, pastel buildings, the warmth of Italian hospitality — it’s no surprise this destination holds a special place in his heart.

And with his candid, cinematic style, it’s a place that seems made for his lens.

Dear Oliver: Where Emotion Becomes Memory

Matthew Greer’s work is defined by quiet observation, emotional truth, and an unwavering dedication to telling stories that last a lifetime. Dear Oliver isn’t just a videography brand — it’s a philosophy: capture the day as it truly felt.

Every laugh. Every breath. Every heartbeat.

Woven together into a film you’ll return to again and again.
