Every wedding carries its own rhythm — a mix of emotions, traditions, and fleeting moments that will never happen in exactly the same way again. For Chris Buckley, founder of Christopher Paul Films, the goal of wedding filmmaking is not to impose a signature style but to preserve that uniqueness.
After more than 15 years in the wedding industry, Chris has filmed hundreds of celebrations across the UK and around the world, capturing weddings in historic estates, vibrant cities, and extraordinary destination locations. His work focuses on authenticity and emotional impact, allowing each couple’s story to unfold naturally in front of the camera.
In 2024, Chris entered a new chapter with the launch of Christopher Paul Films, a refined brand that reflects his vision of offering couples a more personal and bespoke filmmaking experience.
Chris’s career in wedding videography began long before the name Christopher Paul Films existed.
“My original business Perfect Moment Films was formed in 2008.”
At first, weddings were only one part of his creative work. But by 2011, the direction became clear.
“We went full-time with weddings from 2011.”
Over the years, the business steadily grew, bringing opportunities to document weddings in different cultures and locations.
“Since then we've filmed hundreds of weddings across the UK and the rest of the world.”
In 2024, Chris decided it was time to evolve the brand.
The change reflects a stronger focus on storytelling that feels tailored to each couple.
Interestingly, Chris avoids defining his work through a fixed visual style.
“I’d like to think we don’t really have a ‘style’ as such.”
Instead, he approaches every wedding as its own story.
“The goal is to capture and translate each couple’s wedding in their own unique way.”
Rather than directing or staging moments, Chris prefers to observe.
“We don’t enforce a style onto our couples or direct their day.”
But while the approach remains flexible, he hopes every film carries a strong emotional presence.
“I like our films to have a bit of impact and presence about them.”
Something couples feel proud to share with family and friends.
To capture the complexity of a wedding day without disrupting the atmosphere, Chris uses a multi-camera setup.
“We film on multiple Sony cameras.”
This allows coverage from several angles while remaining unobtrusive.
“It gives us multiple angle coverage without making the day feel like a film shoot.”
Drone footage is another tool he enjoys using whenever conditions allow.
“We love to tastefully incorporate drone footage into our films.”
When used carefully, aerial shots add scale and context to the story of the day.
For Chris, one of the most rewarding parts of the job is the opportunity to experience different cultures.
“For me it has always been about experiencing different weddings, cultures, locations and people.”
Even after years in the industry, that sense of discovery remains.
“It never really feels like work when we're there at the wedding.”
Destination weddings offer a particularly memorable experience.
“We’re very lucky to experience cultures and venues many others wouldn't.”
And that sense of gratitude still motivates him.
“We continue to be grateful for doing so.”
Although many bookings come through wedding planners, Chris always tries to connect with couples whenever possible.
“We love to have initial chats with prospective clients where possible.”
These conversations help him understand the story behind the celebration.
“We talk about how they met, what they like and don’t like, and how they imagine their wedding.”
Closer to the wedding day, another conversation ensures everything is aligned.
“We usually arrange a Zoom call about a month before the wedding.”
That meeting allows couples to share final ideas and requests.
“It’s a chance to go through final details and any questions they may have.”
Chris encourages couples to spend time exploring different filmmakers before choosing one.
“Do your research and look through films.”
Finding a filmmaker whose work resonates emotionally is key.
“Find someone whose films resonate with you as a couple.”
He also suggests asking to see a variety of work.
“Ask to see both short highlight films and longer edits.”
Lighting is another detail couples often overlook.
“Natural light is a videographer’s best friend.”
Rooms with plenty of windows can make a noticeable difference in the final result.
“The lighter and more windows the better.”
Looking back on the early days of his career, Chris believes the best education comes from experience.
“There is no better way to learn than through experience.”
Today’s filmmakers have more learning resources than ever.
“There are now countless training videos and masterclasses available online.”
But one piece of advice remains timeless.
“Trust your gut.”
Every creative professional must find their own path.
“You know your business and how you want it to look. Follow your path.”
Christopher Paul Films does film destination weddings, though family life now shapes the schedule.
One destination that left a lasting impression was Morocco.
“Our favourite destination so far is likely Marrakech.”
The experience combined cinematic scenery with vibrant culture.
“We had a wonderful time filming a wedding there out in the desert.”
Looking ahead, Chris still has a few dream destinations.
“We would absolutely love to film a wedding in Scandinavia or the Dolomites.”
And one idea excites him even more.
“An African safari wedding would be incredible.”
For Chris Buckley, wedding filmmaking is ultimately about capturing moments that cannot be repeated. Every wedding brings new people, new cultures, and new stories. And when those stories are captured honestly, they become something far greater than a wedding film. They become memories couples will revisit for the rest of their lives.
