Some stories begin with a camera. Sophie’s story begins with noticing — the softest gestures, the unscripted glances, the in-between moments most people miss. As the filmmaker behind Dear Sophie, she has built her creative world around honesty, humility, and emotion, crafting films that feel lived-in rather than produced.

“I’m a wedding filmmaker drawn to the raw, unfiltered humanness that unfolds on a wedding day,” she shares. “My background in visual storytelling began with a love for observing, the quiet in-between moments, the subtle gestures, the imperfect beauty that often goes unnoticed.”

For Sophie, wedding filmmaking isn’t a service — it’s a deeply personal way of witnessing people as they are. “Over the past year, I’ve learned that weddings are not about perfection or production, they’re about people. The nerves, the laughter, the chaos, and the stillness. That’s what I aim to capture.”

She doesn’t arrive with a predefined plan or rigid shot list. Instead, she arrives with presence. “I don’t arrive with a shot list or a script; I arrive to witness and to feel. My films are about connection, energy, and the kind of moments that can’t be staged.”

This first season has already shaped her philosophy: “For me, videography isn’t about creating a ‘wedding video’, it’s about crafting something honest and timeless, something that will still make you feel the day as it was, years from now.”

Beginning a New Chapter: “This Is My First Season”

Sophie is refreshingly open about where she is in her journey.

“This is my first season,” she says simply — and with that honesty comes a clarity and passion that often takes others years to find. Her work is grounded in authenticity, not experience measured in years.

A Style Rooted in Humanity, Sound & Atmosphere

When asked to describe her style, Sophie’s answer feels like a gentle manifesto:

My style is documentary and emotional; honest, immersive, and deeply human. I focus on storytelling over staging, capturing the atmosphere and the tiny, fleeting moments that often say the most.

For her, real moments carry more cinematic power than any posed frame.

“It’s not about perfection or posing; it’s about truth and feeling. The nervous laugh before the ceremony, the chaos in the background, the quiet in-between — those are the moments I live for.”

Visually, her films are soft and cinematic, guided by movement and sound that reconnect couples to the experience itself.

“Visually, my films are cinematic yet organic; soft tones, natural movement, and sound that makes you feel like you’re right there again. I want every film to feel like a memory, not a production.”

Tools That Match the Vision

Her current toolkit reflects this love for organic texture and timeless nostalgia:
Canon R6 Mark II • Vintage VHS Camcorders • Canon Super8

Each brings a different layer of emotion — from crisp documentary clarity to imperfect, evocative analog warmth.

The Best Part of the Job: Being Trusted With a Story

“There’s something incredibly special about being invited into one of the most intimate days of someone’s life and being trusted to tell it honestly,” Sophie says.

She hopes her films allow couples to feel the heartbeat of the day long after it’s passed:
“I hope my films let everyone feel what that day was truly like, not just see it.”

Connecting With Couples: Curiosity, Openness & Quiet Presence

Sophie works with a gentle intentionality:

“I approach every couple with curiosity and openness. Before the wedding, I take time to get to know their story and what matters most to them, not just visually, but emotionally.”

On the wedding day, she becomes a quiet observer.

“On the day itself, I blend in quietly, letting things unfold naturally. My goal is to create a space where they can simply be themselves, while I observe and capture the real energy of the day.”

Advice for Couples: Be Present, Let Go, Trust the Day

Her guidance for engaged couples reflects everything she values:

“Try to slow down and be present. The day moves faster than you think. Don’t get caught up in perfection or timelines, the best moments are rarely planned. Surround yourself with people who make you feel at ease, and trust your team. Your wedding film will be a reflection of that energy. Real, alive, and beautifully imperfect.”

Advice to Her Past Self: “You Are Doing GREAT!”

If she could speak to the Sophie who was just starting?

“You are doing GREAT! Trust yourself.”

Few words capture her philosophy better.

Destination Weddings: Light, Culture & New Stories

“I absolutely love destination weddings! There’s something magical about capturing love in a new place, the adventure, the unique light, the culture, and the way couples truly immerse themselves in the experience.”

She doesn’t have a single favorite location — every destination offers its own poetry.

“That said, sun-soaked Mediterranean coastlines and cozy European countryside weddings always hold a special place in my heart.”

A Final Note From Sophie

I’d just like to add that every wedding, no matter the location, is a story worth telling. My goal is always to create films that capture the real moments, the emotions, and the energy of the day, so that years later, couples can relive it and feel it all over again.
