Sometimes, the most fulfilling careers start with a favor. For Laine Palm, founder of Laine Palm Planning + Design, it all began by assisting a friend during wedding days. "I started working alongside a friend, helping her on weddings days and grew to love it," Laine recalls. That spark quickly ignited into a passion—and soon, a business.
Now in her ninth year, Laine reflects on her very first full wedding: “It was of course a learning curve, especially when it came to managing budget, but the couple were so lovely and the final product was really gorgeous.” That wedding didn’t just mark a milestone—it also brought her three new clients. “Which feels crazy to reflect on,” she adds, with gratitude.
What sets Laine apart isn’t just her experience—it’s her philosophy. At the heart of her brand is a spirit of collaboration, strong communication, and deep respect for intentional design. “I love planning weddings with intentional design alongside creativity in service and guest experience,” she explains.
Whether it's an intimate lakeside celebration or a grand weekend affair, Laine thrives when working hand-in-hand with a trusted team. “I love working with my vendor team and seeing the final product come to life. I also just love celebrating my couples and being able to give them a day they truly love.”
Laine’s offerings are just as thoughtful as her process. Clients can choose from two signature packages: Full Planning or Design. But flexibility is key—she also offers customized packages based on each couple’s unique needs. "It’s about building their trust, educating along the way, and creating close relationships with them and their vendor team," she notes. “So wedding day, hugs are everywhere.”
Of all the weddings Laine has orchestrated, one stands out vividly. “A wedding weekend at a family-owned resort,” she begins, glowing at the memory. “We planned an Oktoberfest Welcome Party where everyone dressed in lederhosen and we had an acapella group sing throughout the evening.”
The ceremony was held under a beautiful tent on the couple’s tennis courts, with a lakefront backdrop rich in family memories. “It was so personal, beautiful, and the family was just incredible.”
Even seasoned planners face hurdles. For Laine, managing expectations and educating clients about budgets has been one of the more nuanced challenges. Her advice? “Get numbers in front of you early on to see what the wants vs needs are and prioritize.”
She encourages couples not to underestimate the power of professional help: “Hire a planner! We are worth our weight in gold in what we know!”
If she could go back to the beginning, Laine knows exactly what she’d say to her younger self: “Take your time, don't say yes to everything, and create a community that aligns with your goals and values in a business.”
As for dream venues? She’s got her eyes on two stunning contrasts: “A vineyard in California or the New York Public Library.” From open-air romance to historic grandeur, it’s clear that Laine Palm Planning + Design is always ready to bring beauty to any space.
