“There is no substitute for hard work. Just keep your eye on what you want and don’t look at others.” — Michelle Norwood
With over 20 years of experience in curating weddings that blend intimacy, elegance, and authenticity, Michelle Norwood has earned her place as one of the most sought-after wedding planners in the world. But her story didn’t begin in ballrooms or bridal boutiques. It began in the vibrant heart of New Orleans, where music echoes in every corner and stories are woven into the city’s very soul.
We sat down with the founder and creative force behind Michelle Norwood Events to explore how she went from accounting spreadsheets to luxury destination weddings—and why every wedding she plans is a deeply personal reflection of the couple at its center.
Before stepping into the world of wedding planning, Michelle worked as an accountant—a role that refined her attention to detail and sharpened her organizational skills. Yet, something was missing.
"While this role honed my organizational skills and attention to detail, I realized that my true calling was in creating memorable events that celebrate love and connection."
That realization led Michelle to build a company rooted in passion and creativity. And from her first event, she knew she had found her purpose.
“Reflecting on the first wedding I ever planned brings back fond memories. It was an intimate gathering in one of New Orleans' hidden courtyards... The day was a true reflection of their journey together.”
Michelle’s upbringing in New Orleans greatly influences her planning philosophy.
“My journey into wedding planning was deeply influenced by the rich culture and genuine nature of my hometown, where jazz echoes through the streets and culinary genius fills the air.”
It’s this cultural richness that she brings into every wedding she touches. Whether in the heart of New Orleans or across the globe, she curates experiences that feel intentional, soulful, and personal.
“By uncovering my clients' stories and backgrounds, I let their narratives inspire each celebration, resulting in events that are not only visually stunning but also deeply meaningful.”
Michelle Norwood Events is not about volume; it’s about vision. Her company offers only full design, production, and planning services, ensuring she and her team can immerse themselves in every detail from start to finish.
"We believe that love is worth celebrating, and each event should be a genuine reflection of the couple's unique story."
Her approach is collaborative, intentional, and rooted in storytelling:
“Rather than adhering to a predetermined formula, we collaborate closely with our clients to understand their individual desires, cultural backgrounds, and the specific experiences they wish to create for their guests.”
This methodology ensures that no two weddings are alike.
Among the many celebrations Michelle has curated, one stands out: Bridgette and Saul’s destination wedding in New Orleans.
“Bridgette and Saul had three specific requests: a barbecue reception, mix-and-matched place settings, and a venue with an iconic New Orleans courtyard.”
Michelle delivered all three—and then some. The couple selected the historic Pharmacy Museum, dined on elevated barbecue cuisine from Little Bushel Catering, and celebrated surrounded by curated, mismatched table settings that were both whimsical and refined.
“When we were dancing in the rain towards the end of the night, I remember closing my eyes and just feeling pure elation. My favorite person, in my favorite place to the soundtrack of some of my favorite music—surrounded by so much love. I wanted to dance forever.” — Saul
That wedding, later featured in Vogue, marked a turning point for Michelle Norwood Events.
“This wedding made Michelle Norwood Events the brand it is today. It was the beginning.”
Michelle’s venue choices are as intentional as her designs.
“Although we have worked [at the New Orleans Museum of Art] countless times, I have been able to design and produce so many different weddings within the 13 acres of stunning gardens and elegant architecture. With two weddings on the books this year, I am still creating new designs I have never done before.”
She also holds a special place in her heart for Preservation Hall—“a jazz lover’s dream, steeped in musical history and romance”—and N7, a secluded gem with European charm.
Internationally, her weddings have unfolded in breathtaking places, from a Greek farm in Crete to a luxury safari camp in Botswana.
One of the most consistent challenges? Helping couples select the perfect venue.
“With a world full of stunning locations, the abundance of choices can often make the decision overwhelming.”
Michelle approaches this with the same personalized attention that defines the rest of her process—understanding the couple’s dream and guiding them toward a space that feels just right.
She also brings budget mindfulness to the planning process:
“Our approach is centered on transparency, strategic planning, and prioritization to help couples stay on budget while still achieving their dream wedding.”
To couples embarking on their wedding journey, Michelle offers this wisdom:
“Planning a wedding is a journey filled with excitement, anticipation, and, at times, challenges... embrace the entire process, understanding that the ups and downs are all part of crafting your unique celebration.”
And to her younger self?
“There is no substitute for hard work. Just keep your eye on what you want and don’t look at others.”
When asked about her dream venue, Michelle doesn’t hesitate.
“On a trip to Egypt, I had the opportunity to take a private tour of the Pyramids and learned the intricate details of planning a wedding or event there.”
Her vision is grand, romantic, and unforgettable:
“Imagine exchanging vows at sunset with Khufu as your backdrop, followed by a lavish candlelit reception under the stars, blending ancient Egyptian elegance with modern luxury.”
One day, she hopes to bring this epic celebration to life.
Today, Michelle Norwood is celebrated not just for her beautiful events, but for her ability to translate love stories into unforgettable experiences. With features in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and BRIDES, and an ever-growing list of dream weddings around the globe, she continues to lead with heart, soul, and the spirit of New Orleans.
Her work reminds us: the best weddings don’t just look beautiful—they feel meaningful.
“What makes us different and unique is also what makes us beautiful.”
