“I always say that becoming a wedding planner and designer has been the best accident of my life,” Rodrigo Mora begins with a smile. Fourteen years ago, a friend’s casual invitation changed everything. “She asked me to join her at her wedding meetings just to give my opinion. A few months later, she asked me to take over her entire wedding. I was 21, and I said yes—just for fun.” That decision sparked what would become a lifelong vocation.

After that first experience, Rodrigo began collaborating with established planning firms while completing his architecture degree. “Once I graduated, I decided to take the leap and start my own company, RM, which will celebrate its 10th anniversary this coming February.”

His first solo project remains close to his heart: “It was Alejandra’s wedding at the breathtaking Chapala Lake. We built a platform over the water overlooking Mexico’s largest lake. Being entrusted with such an intimate day was humbling and inspiring—it shaped everything I’ve done since.”

Finding Meaning in Every Love Story

For Rodrigo, wedding planning isn’t simply logistics—it’s a creative journey. “Every couple and every wedding is a completely new world to discover. Each love story is unique, and I love the challenge of designing events that reflect who they are.”

Beyond the aesthetics, it’s the human connection that fuels him.

This work is so intimate. We walk alongside our clients during one of the most meaningful moments of their lives. That trust—that shared joy—is what makes it all worthwhile.

A Philosophy Rooted in Love and Passion

“The philosophy of my company has always been rooted in love and passion—because without those two, this work wouldn’t be possible.” RM by Rodrigo Mora isn’t just about flawless celebrations, but about creating meaningful, stress-free experiences. “We want our clients to know we’re here for them every step of the way—guiding, caring, and celebrating with them.”

When asked about the types of weddings he loves most, Rodrigo answers without hesitation: “The ones that are authentic. When couples make decisions that reflect their true selves, the celebration becomes unforgettable.”

Tailored Experiences, Not Packages

“At RM, we don’t work with fixed packages because every wedding deserves a tailored approach,” Rodrigo explains. Instead, his team charges a planning and design fee adjusted to the size and complexity of the event. “Our philosophy has always been that everything is a yes until it’s a no—we explore every possibility to make our couple’s vision come to life.”

From design concepts to execution, his team ensures no detail is overlooked. “Our goal is simple: make sure couples feel supported and confident throughout the journey.”

The Most Unforgettable Wedding: His Own

When asked about his most memorable project, Rodrigo doesn’t hesitate. “Not to sound cliché, but my own wedding was the most unforgettable.” Experiencing the process as a groom gave him a new perspective.

“It was a huge challenge, but incredibly fulfilling,” he recalls. The event was nothing short of architectural art—a 400-foot platform over the agave fields in Tequila, towering 20 feet above the ground. “Guests entered through a 40-foot-long mirror box reflecting the landscape, honoring the Agave Landscape, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Two long banquet tables seated 150 guests each, leading to a spectacular dance floor.”

It was both a personal celebration and a creative milestone. “That project changed how I approach weddings. It reminded me that emotion and design should always coexist.”

Translating Dreams into Design

“For me, everything begins with listening,” Rodrigo shares. “I spend time understanding each couple—their vision, their story, their essence.” Through conversations, visuals, and mood boards, he translates emotions into tangible experiences.

“The most rewarding part is when the couple walks in and says, ‘This feels like us.’ That’s when I know we’ve done it right.”

From Mexico City to Merida: Celebrations Without Borders

While RM is based in Mexico, Rodrigo and his team work across diverse destinations. “More than venues, we work across cities—Mexico City, San Miguel de Allende, Riviera Maya, Punta Mita, and Merida are currently very popular. But we go wherever love takes us.”

Each destination brings a new challenge, and Rodrigo thrives on that variety.

Every location has its own spirit. Our job is to blend that energy with the couple’s story.

Challenges that Shape Greatness

“Some of the biggest challenges come from transforming unconventional spaces into elegant venues,” he explains. “We’ve built weddings in fields, parking lots, and abandoned buildings—sometimes from the ground up.”

While these massive productions require up to 20 days of setup, Rodrigo notes that even short turnaround events can be tougher. “Ironically, transforming a ballroom in just a few hours can be more stressful than building a venue from scratch.”

But his greatest challenge—and joy—remains creative. “Capturing a couple’s dream and translating it into reality is the most demanding part. But when we hit the target, it’s magic.”

Budgeting with Transparency and Trust

Rodrigo emphasizes the importance of honesty and communication when it comes to finances. “The key to staying on budget is transparency from the start. Couples need to be open about their real numbers, and planners must guide them wisely.”

His main advice? “Be honest about your priorities. Choose the right venue and vendors early on—they determine the flow of the entire budget. Trust your planner to protect your vision while managing costs.”

Words of Wisdom for Couples and Creatives

For couples planning their wedding, Rodrigo’s advice is simple but powerful: “Stay true to what matters most. Don’t chase trends—build something that feels like you.”

And for his younger self, he reflects warmly: “Never doubt yourself, always work from love, and look for beauty in this crazy world. Believing in your own capacity will take you far—even before you have the experience to match.”

The Dream Canvas

Asked about his ultimate dream venue, Rodrigo’s answer perfectly sums up his artistry: “A blank canvas—the blanker, the better.”

He smiles, imagining the possibilities.

Whether it’s a lavender field, a savannah, or a hidden forest, I love spaces that allow us to create something never seen before. That’s where magic happens.
