The journey into the heart of wedding planning wasn't scripted. “After graduating with degrees in Marketing and Management, After dabbling in non-profit events and planning weddings for friends, I had the opportunity to join the Spell Events team in early 2018 and never looked back,” the Spell Events pioneer shared, reflecting on the inception of their passion. A venture into non-profit events and orchestrating weddings for friends was the spark that ignited a full-blown career. 

The first wedding, a labor of love for friends, revealed a hidden talent. “I quickly realized I had a passion for this and was pretty good at it,” they recalled, highlighting the moment the passion became a profession.

For Spell Events, the core of wedding planning is deeply personal. “Connecting with couples and hearing their unique stories… I love to create their wedding design and guest experience centered around what's most important to them,” Kelsey Miller expressed. “We're not about stuffy meetings, generic designs, or overly formal client relationships.  In every situation, we look to go above and beyond in serving our client's needs and answering their questions before they even know they have them. We like to say that we take the stress out of planning so they just get to enjoy the fun parts! Our favorite weddings to plan are those with couples who are truly in love and so excited to be getting married,” they added, painting Spell Events as a curator of dreams, where every detail is a brushstroke in a larger masterpiece.

Offering a range from Event Management to bespoke planning packages, Spell Events prides itself on flexibility. “We offer both an Event Management package that begins 10 weeks out from the wedding and custom planning packages that can be created for their specific needs from Partial Planning as guidance throughout the process to Full Service Planning & Design where we handle every little detail for the wedding weekend as a whole,” they outlined, emphasizing their commitment to meeting every couple's unique vision.

Memories That Last: A Garden Wedding Unforgotten

Reflecting on a particularly memorable event, an outdoor wedding challenged by the unpredictability of weather, they shared, “One of my most memorable weddings was an outdoor garden wedding at McGovern Centennial Gardens. It required a pretty significant vendor flip from ceremony to reception that would be tricky even in fair weather. Of course, the week of the wedding the forecast predicted rain. We worked with the couple on Plan B and Plan C as the weather turned worse. Ultimately, the vendors made everything happen, the wedding was beautiful, and the couple was happy!” This anecdote serves as a testament to Spell Events' ability to navigate challenges with grace and precision.

“Start with a planner even before your venue! A good planner is invaluable in providing you with upfront costs that are true to your market and current timing. This will help you establish reasonable expectations from the beginning. A good planner will also be able to create design elements you never thought of, source things most efficiently, and guide you through the process with the least amount of stress.”

“We begin with a detailed “getting to know you” process that includes a questionnaire and kickoff meeting. Then throughout the process, we are in frequent communication with our clients and select a vendor team that best works within their style, budget, and personality so that everything feels seamless, and they're confident in their vendor team to bring everything to life on wedding day,” the Spell Events lead detailed, highlighting the importance of alignment in vision, style, and personality for creating a seamless experience.

Budgeting with Brilliance

“The biggest piece of this is creating a realistic budget from the beginning of planning,” they advised, stressing the importance of transparency and planning from the outset. “We start our initial consultation calls by talking through general details and getting a sense of their overall vision. From there, we're happy to share a reasonable estimate of what they can expect to spend to achieve that vision. This helps set reasonable expectations from the start, see if we're a good match, and gives the couple honest and accurate information from the very beginning,” offering a blend of market insight and creative solutions to align dreams with financial realities.

When asked about their dream venue, they shared, “Planning an intimate wedding at Lake Como with bold colors would be a dream,” encapsulating their love for blending stunning settings with vibrant aesthetics.
