Brandy Wheatley never set out to become a wedding planner. Yet today, she stands as the creative force behind Blue Chalk Events — a full-service planning and design firm known for heartfelt celebrations, refined style, and meticulous attention to detail. We sat down with Brandy to explore the story behind Blue Chalk Events — from her earliest inspiration to her favorite venues and philosophies on love, design, and what truly makes a wedding unforgettable.
Before wedding timelines and design boards, Brandy’s days were filled with lesson plans and classrooms. As an award-winning elementary teacher, she spent years nurturing young minds — a role that would later serve as an unexpected foundation for her event-planning career.
“I have always been a dreamer, a lover of love, and had a real passion for event planning!” she shares. “I have planned most of our family themed parties, milestone anniversaries, birthdays, fundraisers, even assisted on some family weddings!”
It wasn’t long before that passion turned into purpose. When a few colleagues asked her to help plan their weddings, something clicked.
“I was immediately filled with excitement and joy! Not long after, I launched Blue Chalk Events and haven’t looked back!”
Every celebration Brandy plans is rooted in intentionality. At the heart of Blue Chalk Events is a simple but powerful mission: to craft events that reflect the love stories of each couple, not a copy of someone else’s Pinterest board.
“Our standard is providing an exceptional personalized service, thoughtful, yet creative design, with seamless execution, which authentically appeals to the individual styles of our couples.”
She adds, “We are dedicated to building client trust and have a reputation for long-standing relationships — with clients as well as our talented colleagues in the community.”
It’s an approach that makes planning not only smoother but more meaningful. “Wedding planning is deeply personal and centered around forming client connections, which most often lead to lifelong friendships.”
There’s no typical day in Brandy’s world — and that’s exactly what she loves about it.
“With the mix of intricate logistics, innovative thinking, problem solving and curating meaningful moments, wedding planning is constantly thought-provoking!” she explains. “It’s all about bringing new, fresh concepts or approaches to life, tailored to each couple.”
At Blue Chalk Events, that means embracing the creative process from start to finish and celebrating each detail along the way.
“Wedding planning has such a rewarding end goal — a new marriage and commitment — which is what’s most exciting about it.”
When asked about her most memorable event, Brandy doesn’t hesitate.
“Last spring, we produced an immersive wedding weekend on a stunning golf course owned by the groom’s family,” she recalls.
The event was full of personal touches — from a coastal-western chic welcome party to a ceremony set on the 18th hole, complete with a garden-inspired floral aisle. Guests were greeted with personal limoncello shots to find their seats, and a clear-top tent housed live music and heartfelt toasts.
And in true Blue Chalk fashion, even the afterparty had personality: “The couple’s love for late-night Taco Bell runs inspired TB burritos and tacos for the afterparty!”
Brandy’s approach with clients is rooted in collaboration, clarity, and trust. She believes the best events happen when couples lean fully into the process.
“The weddings I love to plan most are those where the client puts their complete trust in the planning process and fully leans into my expertise,” she explains. “Those who truly allow me to push them to think broader than their Pinterest boards!”
Her biggest challenge? “When couples or families have too much outside advice and don’t fully trust the process of the professional guidance and or the expertise they are given.”
To keep things on track — especially financially — she offers one key piece of advice: “Be very intentional with your guest list! Really take time to dive deep into who you and your partner want to surround yourselves with to celebrate this milestone.”
Brandy has worked at a range of venues, but two Oklahoma favorites hold a special place in her heart:
First National Center, Oklahoma City – “An art deco and architectural dream.”
Aspen Ranch, Edmond – “A modern ranch-style venue nestled on 160 acres.”
As for her dream destination weddings?
“One would be to plan a wedding weekend on Martha’s Vineyard. Another would be an immersive experience on the Amalfi Coast in Italy!”
To couples beginning their planning journey, Brandy offers heartfelt encouragement:
“Hire an experienced Wedding Planner and trust them! Your Wedding Planner is worth their weight in gold. Make a list of your top priorities and keep your focus on what is important to you as a couple.”
And to her younger self, just starting out?
“Have the confidence to say no if something is not a good fit from the beginning! Take on clients who truly value your work and invest in yourself. Find your people & grow together!”
