As she steps into her first year as a full-time wedding photographer, Nikki shares her experience, style, and love for capturing life’s most precious moments.

The Beginning of a Creative Journey

Nikki’s love for photography was sparked during her high school yearbook class, but it wasn’t long before it became more than just a hobby. “I first picked up a camera in my high school yearbook class and soon after, I followed in my very talented mother's footsteps of being a (hobbyist) photographer.” What started as a creative outlet quickly flourished into a thriving business, thanks to her dedication and the trust of her clients. 

With her mother as an inspiration, Nikki honed her skills over the years. By 2020, she officially launched her business, Nikki Elizabeth Photo, embracing her passion for capturing love stories. “I owe all of my success to my amazing clients who have believed in me and trusted me to document their wedding day memories.”

Developing a Signature Style

When it comes to describing her photography style, Nikki defines it as timeless with a touch of nostalgia. “I would say my style is very timeless and true to color with a hint of a vintage feel.” She focuses on creating images that feel authentic, allowing couples to relive their special day for years to come. 

Her approach to photography is rooted in simplicity and elegance, favoring natural tones and minimal post-processing. Nikki explains, “I edit all of my photos by hand in Lightroom. I like to keep my editing minimal, focusing on colors.”

The Art of Connection

One of Nikki’s greatest joys in her career is building connections with her clients. She believes that getting to know the couples she works with is key to capturing their true essence. “First and foremost, I like to get to know my clients and get a feel for who they are as a couple. This is so important to me.” 

Many of Nikki’s clients become close friends, a testament to her warm, laid-back approach. “A lot of my clients end up becoming close friends of mine due to my friendly and laid-back client experience.” This connection allows her to capture candid, meaningful moments with a “fly on the wall” perspective, making her photography feel intimate and genuine.

A Trusted Companion on Wedding Days

Nikki’s calming presence on a wedding day sets her apart. She understands that wedding days can be overwhelming, and her goal is to help couples feel comfortable and relaxed in front of the camera. “I am a very laid-back person, and I have been told that my presence on wedding days is very calming, so my goal is for my clients to always be comfortable.”

Her advice to couples preparing for a shoot? “Relax! I know this is easier said than done, but if you are stressed or uncomfortable, it will show in your photos.” Nikki believes that the best photos come from moments when couples feel at ease and natural.

Customizing the Experience

Every couple is unique, and Nikki understands that their wedding photography should reflect that. She offers customizable packages tailored to each couple’s specific needs. “Absolutely! All of my packages are customizable, and I offer a ton of add-ons that make it easy for my clients to book exactly what they need.”

By collaborating closely with her clients, Nikki ensures that their vision comes to life, even before the big day. “I love to ask to see any mood boards or Pinterest boards before they book, just so I can get a feel for their vibe and see if I will be able to create their dream photos.”

Balancing Passion with Personal Life

As a newlywed herself, Nikki is mindful of maintaining a healthy work-life balance. In 2024, she will photograph 34 weddings, but she plans to scale back in 2025 to focus on fewer, more intentional projects. “Work-life balance is important to me as I am newly married, so cutting back is going to be a big thing for me and my business.”

By taking on fewer weddings, Nikki aims to give more attention to each couple while also creating space for personal growth and time with her husband.

The Thrill of Destination Weddings

Nikki’s passion for travel has naturally extended into her work, as she offers destination wedding photography for couples across the globe. Her love for exploring new places is matched by her desire to capture love in every corner of the world. “I absolutely love to travel, and I like to tell my clients that I will go wherever your love takes me!”

Her favorite destination so far? The breathtaking Oregon Coast. “The mountains and the people there are incredible! I hope to go back soon!”
