For Amrit Grewal, wedding photography was never part of a predetermined plan. It emerged naturally — the result of curiosity, observation, and a deep instinct to document life as it unfolds.
“I first began documenting weddings in 2009 in my hometown of Vancouver, Canada,” he recalls. “At the time, I was travelling with a camera, photographing landscapes and capturing documentary-style moments within my local community.”
His early work was driven not by weddings, but by real life — the subtle, unscripted moments that often go unnoticed.
“I was drawn to real life as it unfolded rather than staged scenes.”
That instinct shaped everything that followed. When a couple encountered his work and asked him to photograph their wedding, it became a turning point.
“That first experience was incredibly impactful. I loved the emotional depth of the day, the unscripted moments, the energy, and the responsibility of preserving memories that would live on far beyond the event itself.”
What began as a single opportunity evolved into a lifelong path — one rooted not in trends, but in storytelling.
“It may not be a dramatic origin story, but it’s one rooted in genuine love for storytelling — and I’ve never looked back.”
With over seventeen years behind the camera, Amrit’s approach has matured into a nuanced balance between editorial refinement and documentary authenticity.
“My photography is a thoughtful balance of editorial and documentary approaches,” he explains.
His images are guided by composition and intentional framing, yet remain grounded in real emotion.
“I’m drawn to refined composition, intentional framing, and a sense of quiet elegance, while staying deeply present for real, unscripted moments as they unfold.”
The result is imagery that feels elevated but never artificial.
This balance allows his work to transcend trends, preserving not just how weddings look — but how they feel.
Amrit’s technical approach is guided by reliability and adaptability, allowing him to remain fully present in dynamic environments.
“I shoot on Canon professional camera systems and lenses. I choose my equipment for its reliability, color science, and performance across varied lighting conditions.”
This flexibility allows him to work intuitively, adapting seamlessly as the day unfolds.
“My gear allows me to work intuitively and unobtrusively while adapting quickly to the flow of the day.”
His editing philosophy follows the same timeless principle.
“All images are edited in Adobe Lightroom using my own custom presets. My post-processing approach is clean, timeless, and true to natural tones.”
Rather than chasing fleeting aesthetics, he focuses on consistency and longevity.
“I aim for consistency across the gallery while preserving accurate color, skin tones, and the integrity of light, avoiding trends that won’t age well.”
What continues to inspire Amrit most is not the setting, but the human experience itself.
“What I love most is being invited into deeply personal moments and witnessing human connection at its most meaningful.”
His work is especially influenced by the cultural and emotional layers that shape each celebration.
“I’m especially inspired by stories shaped by culture, family, and place.”
Through photography, he translates these invisible dynamics into visual narratives couples can return to for decades.
“I find it incredibly fulfilling to translate those layers into images couples can return to for a lifetime.”
Amrit approaches each wedding as a collaborative process, grounded in listening and trust.
This distinction shapes everything — from timelines to creative decisions.
“Through open communication, timeline guidance, and creative trust, I create space for moments to unfold naturally while ensuring the imagery reflects their story.”
His collections are designed with flexibility, particularly for destination and multi-day celebrations.
“Most of my collections are custom-built. Every wedding is different, particularly multi-day and destination celebrations.”
This tailored approach ensures the final work aligns fully with the couple’s experience and priorities.
Reflecting on his journey, Amrit emphasizes patience and clarity as essential foundations.
“I would tell myself to be patient and trust the process.”
For him, longevity is built through relationships and creative integrity.
“Focus on building strong relationships, developing a clear point of view, and making decisions with a long-term vision in mind rather than chasing quick wins.”
For couples, his advice is equally thoughtful.
“My biggest advice is to prioritize how the day feels over how it looks.”
Presence, not performance, is what creates meaningful imagery.
“Build in breathing room, trust your creative team, and allow yourself to be present.”
Destination weddings remain central to Amrit’s work, taking him across continents and cultures.
“Yes, destination weddings are a core part of my work, and I travel worldwide documenting celebrations.”
Yet one place continues to inspire him deeply.
“Italy remains my favorite destination to photograph.”
The environment itself becomes part of the storytelling.
“The light, history, architecture, and pace of life create an incredibly rich environment for storytelling.”
And even after many visits, its creative influence remains constant.
Seventeen years into his career, Amrit Grewal’s work remains rooted in the same instinct that guided his earliest photographs: observe honestly, compose intentionally, and honor the emotional truth of each moment.
His images do more than document weddings.
They preserve presence.
They preserve connection.
They preserve memory in its most authentic form.
