When Ankita Asthana and Akash Agarwal founded WeddingNama, they weren’t just launching a photography studio—they were establishing a new language of storytelling. As life partners and co-creators, their journey into wedding photography wasn’t born of tradition but of purpose.
“We’re Ankita and Akash—the duo behind WeddingNama, partners in life and storytelling.”
Ankita’s path began in architecture and wound its way through the visual arts. Armed with a Master’s degree in Photography from the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad, she brought an editorial eye and emotional clarity to every image. Her name now stands proudly among the WPJA’s Top 10 photographers in the world, twice over.
Akash, with an MBA from XLRI and a background in corporate strategy, brought the cinematic structure that WeddingNama’s films are known for. Together, they’ve built something rare—a studio where art and heart live side by side.
At the core of WeddingNama’s work lies a beautiful duality—refined editorial elegance paired with raw, emotional honesty. Their style is unmistakable: cinematic, unposed, light-filled, and deeply intentional.
“Our style is a fusion of fine art portraiture and soulful documentary storytelling. We love clean frames, true colours, emotion-led composition, and light that breathes.”
They approach each wedding like a living narrative. Moments aren’t captured—they’re composed in real time, informed by instinct and anchored in emotion. From grand palaces in Rajasthan to intimate beach ceremonies in Tulum, every frame they craft tells a story meant to last a lifetime.
What sets WeddingNama apart is not just their visual language but their emotional clarity. They don’t shoot to impress—they shoot to preserve something sacred.
“We believe weddings are emotional ecosystems, and our job is to capture them with honesty, sophistication, and soul.”
This belief informs everything they do—from how they listen during client meetings to how they guide couples through the sometimes-chaotic pace of a wedding day. WeddingNama doesn’t impose a template—they follow the energy of the moment.
“We gently guide our couples, but never stage them. We create a space where they can be themselves—and that honesty shines through in every frame.”
As official brand ambassadors for Nikon, Profoto, and Harman Technology, Ankita and Akash believe in using the best tools in the business—but never letting the technology overshadow the story.
“Technology is a silent partner—it enables us to be present, responsive, and invisible when needed.”
Their approach is minimal but powerful. They utilize multi-camera setups, drone footage, and fine-tuned lighting—not to create gimmicks, but to give depth to the moments they’re entrusted with.
Post-processing follows the same philosophy. “We believe in refining—not transforming.” Their edits maintain skin tone authenticity, emotional color grading, and timeless compositions. Their goal: emotional longevity.
Over the past 14 years, WeddingNama has grown from a duo to a 25+ member powerhouse team. But at its heart, it remains deeply personal. From documenting the weddings of iconic names like Zaheer Khan, Masoom Minawala, and Sooraj Barjatya, to shooting intimate family affairs, their core belief remains the same: every love story deserves reverence.
“Our greatest pride comes not from awards or publications—but from the voice notes, letters, and tears we receive from couples when they see their story come alive.”
And they’re not just investing in couples—they’re investing in the future of the craft. In 2019, they founded WeddingNama School, a mentorship platform designed to train the next generation of photographers with the same thoughtfulness and integrity.
With over 20 countries in their portfolio, destination weddings are an essential part of the WeddingNama DNA. Whether they’re working in the deserts of Oman or the vineyards of Italy, Ankita and Akash see each location as a character in the couple’s story.
“What excites us most about destination weddings is the opportunity to weave location into the storytelling—not just as a backdrop, but as an active character in the narrative.”
Some favorite destinations? Mexico, for its surreal light and natural elements. Australia, for its open skies and cinematic terrain. And of course, India—with its unmatched vibrance and emotional depth.
No WeddingNama experience is ever “off the rack.” Every couple receives a fully bespoke package, shaped around their unique needs, traditions, and scale.
“Every WeddingNama couple receives a fully customized proposal based on their wedding scale, vision, and aesthetic preferences.”
And while photography is at the center of it all, their involvement runs deeper. From shot curation and moodboards to timeline consultation, WeddingNama acts as visual architects for the day.
They also offer a treasure trove of preparation tips:
Build in buffer time between functions to preserve your energy
Choose minimal, well-lit spaces for getting ready
Communicate cultural and emotional dynamics beforehand
And most importantly? Don’t overthink the camera.
“The magic lies in moments you don’t plan for.”
WeddingNama is more than a studio—it’s a story of intention, built frame by frame. Ankita and Akash have redefined what it means to document a wedding. Their work doesn’t just celebrate beauty; it preserves emotional truth with a clarity that few can replicate.
“We aren’t just filmmakers or photographers—we are visual architects of emotion, crafting timeless stories for couples who want more than the ordinary.”
With every shutter click, every color grade, and every subtle pause between moments, WeddingNama proves that wedding photography can be more than a service. It can be an heirloom.
