Vera Schulz’s path to wedding photography wasn’t planned — it evolved naturally from her desire to tell stories that matter. “I’m a wedding photographer based in Munich, Germany,” she shares. “My journey started with capturing love stories, and over time I’ve focused almost exclusively on weddings, mostly in Italy, France and Germany.”
Her marketing background shaped the way she approaches her art. “I learned the importance of listening, creating problem-based strategies, and building experiences for clients,” she explains. “I try to bring the same approach to my photography, understanding my couples, anticipating their needs, and creating an experience that feels personal, authentic, and memorable.”
There was one defining moment that changed everything. “When I was photographing weddings part-time, I remember one wedding in particular. It was snowing, and I finished shooting just as the sun was setting. The sky turned a deep red, and I walked home feeling so grateful to be doing what I love. In that moment, I asked myself, ‘Why am I not doing this full-time?’”
That question became her turning point. Today, Vera’s name is synonymous with luminous imagery and emotionally charged storytelling.
“I love shooting in an editorial way with a fashionable and ethereal touch,” Vera says. “I’m always inspired by the locations, the couples themselves, and their outfits, which often influences where I put a bit more focus.”
Yet behind the style lies substance.
Her ability to balance beauty and truth makes her photography stand out — the graceful composition of a Vogue spread, yet alive with genuine human warmth.
Vera’s gear reflects her attention to precision and atmosphere. “I shoot with Sony cameras and a range of lenses from 16mm to 200mm,” she notes. “It allows me to capture everything from intimate details to wide, cinematic scenes.”
Her creativity extends to film, too. “For video, I also use Sony gear and sometimes even my vintage Sony Hi8 camera to add a nostalgic, authentic touch.” That small touch of imperfection — the grain, the flicker — brings a feeling of timelessness to her visuals.
“I edit in Lightroom, applying gentle skin retouching on portraits,” Vera says. “My editing approach is always natural. I aim to stay true to authentic colors while adding a refined touch with color grading.”
Her photos feel alive because they are — full of air, light, and the subtle texture of emotion.
“One of the best parts of being a wedding photographer is feeling the anticipation with my couples,” she smiles. “Long before the wedding, it already feels like being part of something special. And when the day arrives, the happiness and excitement are everywhere — it’s such a joy to capture that energy.”
Every wedding she documents is more than a job; it’s an immersion into love’s atmosphere.
“For me, building a connection with my couples before the wedding is just as important as the day itself,” Vera emphasizes. “It helps them feel comfortable and authentic in front of the camera.”
Her process is rooted in empathy and intuition.
She also creates mood boards tailored to each couple. “I start by really listening to my clients, understanding their vision, personalities, and what matters most to them. Since we usually connect early on, I share my tips from the very beginning and create a location-specific mood board based on what I’ve seen or heard from them. This ensures everything aligns with their vision and shows them what’s possible — an approach they really appreciate.”
Vera prefers to take on a limited number of weddings each year. “I feel most comfortable shooting around 15 full-scale weddings or wedding weekends per year, plus almost the same number of shorter civil ceremonies,” she says. “This lets me give each couple my full attention.”
She also customizes her services. “Sometimes couples have different wishes or ideas, and in those cases I can adjust and tailor the package to fit their needs.”
Reflecting on her early days, Vera shares heartfelt advice: “If I could give advice to myself when starting out, it would be: photograph as much as possible. Don’t focus too much on getting clients in the beginning — focus on developing your photography, experimenting, and discovering your own style. Keep being creative, work on personal projects, and always try new things. There’s so much to learn along the way, and it helps you grow as an artist.”
Vera’s insight into helping couples feel confident in front of the camera is refreshingly practical. “If couples generally enjoy taking photos of themselves, like selfies, or like to pose, it’s always easier to achieve great results during a shoot,” she says.
Destination weddings hold a special place in Vera’s heart. “I love it! Destination weddings are so special not just for the couple, but also for the guests,” she says enthusiastically. “There’s a sense of adventure, the celebration feels wilder, and the excitement of a new environment is incredible. I mostly shoot in Italy and France, and Germany. I absolutely love being part of it!”
Vera Schulz doesn’t just photograph weddings — she feels them. Her work is a reflection of how she sees the world: with sensitivity, sophistication, and an unshakable respect for the authenticity of human emotion.
In her images, beauty isn’t posed — it’s revealed. And that’s what makes her art timeless.
