Brancoprata, established by André and his team, represents a collective of creatives specializing in two main areas: photography and floral design & styling.
The journey began when André, born in 1975, faced a pivotal decision during his school years. "I never thought about being a photographer until I had to make a choice in school," he recalls, a moment that profoundly shaped his career path. After completing his photography studies in 1997, André broadened his horizons with an internship at the Instituto Europe di Design in Milan. "I did an internship at IED," he shares, an experience that significantly influenced his artistic vision.
Upon returning to Portugal, André didn't immediately dive into the world of weddings. "I started to work as a photojournalist in several Portuguese newspapers and magazines," he explains. This experience honed his ability to capture fleeting moments and tell stories through images.
Simultaneously, he dipped his toes into the wedding industry. "At the same time I started to work for some wedding photographers has a 2nd shooter," André notes. This dual approach allowed him to develop a unique perspective that would later define his style.
As André’s experience grew, so did his ambition. "Soon I started to feel eager to learn more about wedding photography and get my own style," he admits. This desire for growth led him to take a significant leap in 2004. "In 2004 I’ve started my own business with Sofia, the creative director of the company," he says, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his career.
When asked about his photography style, André offers a refreshingly candid response: "My photography style is the way I see the world, I think that sums it up." This simple yet profound statement encapsulates his approach to his craft.
He elaborates, "I don’t want to feel trapped into one style, I want to make sure my work is evolving and therefore my priority is to make sure my couples get the best possible outcome." This commitment to growth and adaptation sets Brancoprata apart in an industry often defined by trends and conventions.
Brancoprata's technical approach is as nuanced as their artistic vision. When asked about the equipment, André succinctly states, "Both digital and film." This hybrid approach allows the team to leverage the strengths of both mediums, creating images that are both timeless and contemporary.
The post-processing philosophy mirrors this balanced approach. "Basic Lightroom for my digital files, and an incredible lab for all my film," André explains. This minimalist yet effective workflow ensures that each image retains its authenticity while benefiting from subtle enhancements.
Brancoprata's approach to working with clients is deeply rooted in understanding and collaboration. "Every couple is different, and just for that reason, the entire wedding is a different story," André observes. This recognition of uniqueness informs every aspect of their work.
André strives to strike a balance between his artistic vision and his clients' desires. "I tried not to compromise my style of photography, but always making sure they will have exactly what they had envision for their wedding," André explains. This delicate equilibrium is the secret to the team’s success.
For Brancoprata, the key to a successful photoshoot lies in preparation and communication. "Communication is key," André emphasizes. "We try, together with the couple, to make a moodboard, with images (we try that those images aren't wedding related) but that could resonate with their feelings and emotions for the day."
This unique approach allows Brancoprata to capture not just the visual elements of the wedding, but its emotional essence as well. By encouraging couples to think beyond traditional wedding imagery, the team opens up new avenues for creative expression.
As a destination wedding photographer, André has had the opportunity to capture love stories around the world. "Most of my weddings are outside Portugal," he reveals. Yet, when asked about his favorite destination, he remains diplomatically neutral: "Honestly I don't think I have a favorite destination."
This global perspective infuses Brancoprata's work with a cosmopolitan flair, allowing him to draw inspiration from diverse cultures and landscapes.
Brancoprata's business model is as carefully curated as their portfolio. When asked about the comfortable wedding count per year, André simply states, "12." This limited number ensures that each couple receives the team’s undivided attention and creative energy.
Brancoprata’s pricing reflects the exclusivity and quality of their work. "14k," André responds when asked about the minimum starting price for 10 hours of coverage. Despite this premium positioning, Brancoprata remains flexible. "Absolutely," André says when asked if they can create custom packages. "That's one of the things that we actually encourage couples to do."
After 26 years in the industry, André’s enthusiasm for his craft remains undiminished. When asked what he enjoys most about being a photographer, his response is simple yet telling: "Everything :)"
This enduring passion, combined with technical skills, a collaborative approach, and a commitment to evolution, has established Brancoprata as true masters of their craft. In the ever-changing landscape of wedding photography, the team stands as a beacon of creativity, constantly pushing the boundaries of what's possible when love meets art through the lens of a camera.
