Wedding days move quickly. Between the excitement, the emotions, and the countless interactions happening all at once, many couples later realize there are entire moments they barely remember experiencing.
For Hilal Cabuk, founder of weddingbyhilal, that realization came during her own wedding day—and it ultimately shaped her career. Today, she is recognized as one of the first wedding content creators in Germany, helping couples preserve the candid, unscripted atmosphere of their celebration in real time.
Through a documentary-style approach and minimal equipment—often just an iPhone—Hilal focuses on capturing the genuine moments that unfold naturally throughout the day.
We spoke with Hilal about how her journey began, why authenticity matters more than trends, and why some of the most powerful wedding memories are the moments no one planned.
For Hilal, everything began with a simple realization during her own wedding.
“It actually started with my own wedding. At that time wedding content creators didn’t exist in Germany.”
Like many couples, she wanted to preserve the little moments happening throughout the day.
“Those little moments were really important to me, so I asked some of my friends to film throughout the day.”
But she quickly realized that this approach had its limitations.
“Friends are there to celebrate with you, not to replace vendors or work during the day.”
As the day unfolded, many moments simply slipped away.
“In the end a lot of moments weren’t captured the way I hoped, and there are many parts of my wedding day I personally don’t remember because the raw memories are missing.”
Later, she discovered that a new role was emerging elsewhere.
“After the wedding I saw that in the US wedding content creators were already becoming a thing.”
That’s when the idea took shape.
“I thought—why isn’t this a thing in Germany yet?”
Soon after, Hilal began building what would become one of the first wedding content creation services in the country.
For Hilal, the most rewarding part of her work is the closeness she experiences with every couple she documents.
“What I love most is being part of the couple’s most important day and their story.”
Fr om early morning preparations to the last moments of the celebration, she witnesses the entire emotional arc of the day.
“From the morning preparations to the last dance, I experience the day alongside them.”
Unlike traditional work routines, weddings bring something entirely different.
“Weddings are intimate and unique, and they don’t happen every day.”
Each event leaves a lasting impression on her.
“I remember every wedding I’ve been part of and every couple I’ve worked with.”
And every celebration carries a sense of connection.
“I’ve never left a wedding without feeling deeply connected to the people and the moments I get to capture.”
Working closely with couples from many backgrounds has also given Hilal a broader perspective on relationships.
“Weddings show me how many different ways love can exist.”
Every couple brings a unique story.
“Every couple has a story that is completely their own.”
And those stories rarely follow one simple pattern.
“It doesn’t matter the age, gender, or how long people have known each other.”
Witnessing these experiences has shaped how she sees the world.
For Hilal, weddings are constant reminders of the diversity and beauty of human connection.
When couples approach Hilal for wedding content, they are usually looking for something that feels genuine.
“Most couples today want content that feels completely real.”
They often avoid heavily staged content or trendy formats.
“They don’t want staged moments or trendy reels because those things don’t last and they don’t tell the true story of the day.”
Instead, couples want something meaningful.
“I often capture speeches in full that the couple can’t fully remember in the moment because they’re overwhelmed.”
For Hilal, those moments deserve to be preserved.
“Someone spent days preparing those words, so I make sure the couple can experience them again.”
In many ways, her work becomes a long-term record.
“It’s not just content for social media—it’s a lasting record couples can keep and look back on even ten years later.”
Some wedding moments become unexpectedly viral—and often they are the most spontaneous ones.
“The videos that usually go viral are the ones I upload completely raw without any editing.”
One moment in particular spread rapidly online.
“At a wedding, the bride tried to kiss the groom for a photo and he jokingly said ‘don’t kiss me.’”
The playful exchange continued.
“She said she couldn’t resist, and everyone around us—including the vendors—started laughing.”
The clip quickly gained attention.
“That spontaneous moment alone reached more than 60 million views.”
Hilal believes this reaction reflects what audiences truly connect with.
“People want real moments. They want love, surprises, and genuine human connection.”
Hilal is particularly excited about the current direction wedding content is taking.
“Right now I love how much focus there is on raw galleries and natural storytelling.”
For a while, social media trends emphasized highly edited videos.
“Everything was about perfectly edited reels and trending formats.”
Now the focus is changing.
“People are enjoying weddings shown in their natural way.”
For Hilal, this approach aligns perfectly with her philosophy.
“That’s why I keep my equipment minimal—usually just my iPhone—so the moments feel genuine.”
While couples often expect content to focus mainly on them, Hilal believes the surrounding environment matters just as much.
That includes family members, friends, and unexpected interactions.
“Photo and videography often focus mostly on the couple, but as a content creator I capture the behind-the-scenes moments.”
Even small mistakes can become treasured memories.
“I once captured a few little fails at a wedding, and later the couple told me those became some of their favorite memories.”
By capturing reactions, details, and spontaneous interactions, Hilal creates a fuller narrative of the day.
Hilal’s advice begins with something simple but important: connection.
“Make sure you connect with the person behind the camera.”
Because this person will be present throughout the entire celebration.
“For me, my goal is always to feel like an extra bridesmaid.”
She also encourages couples to avoid comparing their wedding to what they see online.
“It’s easy to scroll through wedding content and feel like your day has to look exactly the same.”
But every wedding is unique.
“The location, weather, guests, and small moments shape the day.”
Trying to replicate a scripted moment can actually lim it creativity.
“The best wedding content always comes from the day as it truly happens.”
One celebration Hilal documented featured an unexpected dynamic.
“The bride’s ex was invited to the wedding because they share children together.”
Instead of tension, the atmosphere was surprisingly positive.
“Throughout the day I documented a really nice friendship between the ex and the groom.”
Later, the moment became even more memorable.
“During the dancing part of the evening, the ex performed an incredible breakdance.”
The crowd loved it.
“Everyone cheered him on.”
Moments like these highlight how unique each wedding can be.
Unlike many wedding professionals, Hilal approaches her work with a unique perspective.
“I never really set out with the goal of growing bigger.”
What motivates her most is something simpler.
“Seeing that when you work with passion, it always finds its way to people who appreciate it.”
Recognition from couples and vendors continues to inspire her.
“That kind of appreciation is incredibly motivating.”
For Hilal, wedding content creation remains deeply personal.
“It’s never really about the money—it’s about keeping it a passion.”
Today, Hilal works with a very limited number of couples each year.
“I take on only a small number of weddings because it’s never about volume.”
She focuses instead on genuine connections.
“For me it’s about whether it feels right and if I truly connect with the couple.”
Her work has also helped shape the growing wedding content creator community in Germany.
While most of her weddings take place in Germany, she occasionally travels abroad.
“I take destination weddings very selectively, usually no more than five a year.”
This year, her work will take her to luxury villas in Italy—and she hopes to explore even more destinations in the future.
“I would love to capture weddings in extraordinary places like Mexico, Hawaii, or China.”
For Hilal Cabuk and weddingbyhilal, wedding content creation is not about trends or polished perfection. It is about preserving the honest, unscripted moments that define a wedding day.
Because long after the decorations are gone and the music fades, those raw memories—the laughter, the surprises, the unexpected connections—are the moments couples will want to remember most.
