The venue is key; it has the power to transform the entire experience. You know the feeling when you walk through the gates and all those Pinterest boards and late-night planning sessions suddenly come together? If you're a couple looking to celebrate in the South of France, then Château de Tourreau is the place for you. Set within 20 acres of stunning Provençal countryside, it's the ideal location for your special moment.

This 1750s château has remained impeccably maintained while retaining its soul. Forget stuffy museums; this is authentic French elegance that will make you want to pour some champagne and start celebrating right away.

A Setting That Tells Your Story

Located near Orange and Avignon, right in the heart of Provence, this is a venue that is much more than just pretty. The approach alone—that dramatic avenue lined with cypress trees—is enough to set the tone for something special. Right from the start, Charlotte and Sam were in no doubt. "The moment we arrived, we were captivated. Standing in its manicured gardens, looking up at the château’s elegant façade, we knew we had found the perfect place to say “I do," they recall.

Spanning 20 acres, the grounds of this estate are full of surprises around every corner. French gardens transition into English landscapes, creating a seamless blend of European and British design sensibilities. The sound of water flowing gently fills the air. Charming bridges are crossed by koi carp as they drift through streams. Erica and Jack remember vividly how the shade of ancient plane trees and the perfume of jasmine hedges created the perfect setting for intimate moments: "Taking a deep breath before walking down the aisle and smelling the jasmine hedges in full bloom, which instantly eased my nerves."

Spaces You’ll Fall For

We love venues that offer variety, and Tourreau certainly does.

The Château's Interior Rooms

Spread across two floors, the château itself houses six salons and dining rooms, each with its own character. The main salon? The rooms are filled with light thanks to the bay windows that look out over the southern park. The dining room, which was built in the 18th century, has space for 15 people and is furnished with a beautiful wild cherry table. For those late-night moments when you're not ready for the night to end, there's even a blackwood salon with a billiards table.

A magnificent plane tree provides shade for the 130-square-metre patio, which transforms into an outdoor room where lunch is followed by cocktails and dinner. And the special chapel from 1614? With a capacity of 70 guests, it brings a unique historical element to the table that cannot be easily replicated.

Where Everyone Stays

This is where Tourreau's expertise really shines. Across two floors of the main château, guests can choose from nine suites, with some offering views of the southern park and others gazing north. The farm section is where you'll find seven more suites, set around a patio that's designed in the Roman style and filled with olive trees and jasmine. Up to 150 guests can be accommodated for outdoor receptions, with plenty of sleeping arrangements that ensure your nearest and dearest can enjoy the magic without having to leave.

The superior suites are also worth mentioning. The "Imperiale" comes with its own 150-square-metre terrace and a bathroom complete with a jacuzzi. The "Deluxe" option offers both outdoor access and a private office. Each space has been renovated with travertine stone and comes with air conditioning because, even though August in Provence is glorious, it is also hot.

Suite Type Size Location Special Features
Top-floor Suites 20 m² Third floor Park views, renovated travertine bathrooms
Deluxe Suite 30 m² First floor Outdoor access, private office
Prestige Suite 40 m² Second floor Pastel décor, painted bathroom
Imperiale Suite 50 m² Second floor 150 m² private terrace, jacuzzi
Farm Suites 20-30 m² Farm building Roman patio setting, olive trees

The Pool and Summer Kitchen

That 25 x 10 metre infinity pool is what we should talk about for a moment. It's heated. There is a pool house, which contains a lounge and a fully equipped outdoor kitchen. Lockers are available for your convenience. This is not just a pool; it's a whole event space that also happens to include swimming.

Charlotte and Sam had dreamed of "a long summer evening spent dining beneath the olive trees, illuminated by a soft, romantic glow—so discovering that the venue had its own olive groves felt like a dream come true."

The Practical Bits That Make Everything Easier

We know that planning a destination wedding involves making countless decisions. Tourreau makes several of them remarkably simple:

  • Complete freedom with service providers—bring your dream team or choose from their carefully vetted recommendations
  • Professional-grade kitchens (yes, plural): an open Provençal kitchen in the château, a fully equipped summer kitchen by the pool, plus an annex with ice makers and industrial ovens
  • Twenty minutes from Avignon, making it easy to plan additional events throughout the week

Erica and Jack made the most of the location:

its location, twenty minutes from Avignon, made it easy to plan events in different locations throughout the week—welcome drinks at Hôtel La Mirande, a pool party on the Château grounds, rehearsal dinner at Carrières de Lumières, and our wedding day at the Château.

The Tourreau family acquired this land in 1612, and it has been in their possession ever since. The chapel was completed by 1614. Between 1750 and 1770, François Benezet de Tourreau commissioned the architect Brun to design the château itself.

It weathered the storm of the French Revolution, during which François Paul Benezet de Tourreau served as a Grey Musketeer to the King, and has been lovingly enhanced over the centuries. Those Atlas statues supporting the balcony? Added later. The water fountain in the park in the south? Another good idea. This isn't an artefact to be put on display in a museum. It's a living estate that has been improved by each generation while respecting its original features, and you can sense that continuity when you're there.

What Your Guests Will Actually Do Between Events

Here's something we're really into: Guests will have a variety of activities to enjoy beyond the main event, thanks to Tourreau. A tennis court with a training wall. A basketball court. A volleyball court that converts into a badminton court. There's also a 500-square-metre vegetable garden where you can pick your own Provençal vegetables. A grove of Mediterranean fruit trees. A fitness room is available for those who need their morning workout. There is even an educational farm with chickens and goats that children will love. Erica and Jack seized the opportunity: "Peaceful mornings with Jack, strolling the grounds after our coffee and pan au chocolat, then playing tennis before starting our day" became part of their wedding weekend routine. When an entire estate like this is booked, these details matter. A destination wedding is an experience for your guests, not just a wedding.

The Water Feature You Didn't Know You Needed

As soon as you arrive, you will be greeted by the sight of the estate's waterway, which originates in the Dentelles de Montmirail mountains. It flows through the northern park, passing under the chapel, then into the southern park, where it supplies the fountains, before eventually returning to the surrounding vineyards. Saying your vows next to a water source that has been flowing through this property for centuries is a truly romantic experience.

Natalie and Dave gave a perfect description of their chosen ceremony venue:

We knew by the water fountain would be an idyllic spot to say “I do”, for this only to be transformed into the most beautiful evening meal setting with the chateau as the backdrop. A venue that truly will take your breath away and a memory ourselves and our guests will cherish forever.

Your Day, Your Way (Actually Though)

You have the freedom to choose your own service providers and can host up to 150 guests at your outdoor receptions. If you want to use the entire estate for different moments throughout your celebration, that's possible. The natural pathways make it easy to move guests from the gardens to the pool, the chapel and the patio without it feeling forced.

Sara Jayne and Nicholas needed "something historic, romantic, and timeless" for their cinematic love story. Daphne and Sebbe found "a place, a feeling, a moment" they'll never forget. The venue adapts to your needs. They added:

We celebrated our love with the people closest to us, surrounded by the timeless beauty of Château de Tourreau, where every corner felt like it was made for our story. Three days filled with warmth, laughter, emotion and memories that will stay with us forever.

When You Know, You Know

At times, the magic happens right away. Charlotte and Sam felt it as soon as they arrived:

From the moment we first walked through the château’s grand doors, imagining them as the entrance to our ceremony, we were filled with a sense of excitement that only grew with each visit.

Erica and Jack, who had only ever seen the venue in person on their wedding day, found "everything was more picturesque, grand, and perfect in-person." They describe driving up to the château and "getting goosebumps seeing it for the first time. We were nearly in happy tears seeing the grand iron gates open."

The truth about Château de Tourreau lies not only in its obvious beauty — the architecture, the grounds and the facilities — but also in the unexpected moments. The jasmine has a soothing effect on the nerves. The golden hour photoshoots that take place when it's 104°F outside are made possible by the shade provided by the cypress trees. The billiard room becomes an impromptu dance floor, with people cutting loose and moving to the music. The pool that beckons to you at 3 a.m., when you're still in a state of euphoria.

Sara Jayne & Nicholas sum it up well:

We picked Château de Tourreau because it instantly felt like the place where our story made sense. Its beauty, history, and charm created the dreamlike setting we always imagined. It felt like the truest reflection of us — dreamy, joyful, and overflowing with love. Romantic, Refined, Enchanting.

Why We Think You Should Visit

Every couple deserves a venue that matches their vision, their story and their style. Tourreau doesn't try to be all things to all people — it's unashamedly Provençal. France, history and intimate celebrations are the dream of many couples, and this delivers something remarkable for them.

The staff are friendly yet unobtrusive. The landscape is breathtaking. And the château itself? Even without a flower arrangement or string of lights, it looks stunning. As Charlotte and Sam encourage: "We would encourage any couple to experience it for themselves—it's impossible not to fall in love with it, just as we did."

Twenty acres. A total of nine suites, as well as seven more. A chapel dating back to 1614. Mountain water supplies the fountains. Gardens that transition from French formal to English romantic, creating a seamless blend of styles. A pool that reflects the sky. Not to mention the avenue of cypress trees that leads you home. Guests will find it unforgettable. You'll call it the best decision you ever made.
