Jackie Chick's relationship with photography started early—long before weddings, brands, or businesses entered the picture.
“My journey with photography began in high school in Canada, when I first picked up a film camera and became fascinated by people and the subtle ways they connect.”
Born in Hong Kong, raised in Canada for 12 years, and now living in Germany, Jackie’s life across continents naturally shaped the way she sees the world.
“Each place has shaped the way I see and feel things—Hong Kong’s vibrant chaos influence my style and my use of colour in photography, Canada’s openness made me confident connecting with people, and Europe’s art and cinema continue to inspire me.”
Weddings entered her life organically—almost accidentally.
“I stumbled into weddings when all my friends started getting engaged or married haha, and quickly fell in love with the mix of chaos, calm, emotion, and community that naturally unfold throughout a wedding day.”
What started as curiosity soon became a full-time calling.
“Over time, this passion grew into a full-time career, and I’m incredibly grateful that couples around the world resonate with my work and invite me into such meaningful moments. It's honestly the best job ever!!!”
Photography has always been part of Jackie’s life.
“I've started photographing since I was 10 years old to be honest.”
While her creative relationship with the camera began early, her professional focus on weddings has been evolving steadily.
“In terms of wedding photography, I would say 5 years.”
Those years have been shaped not only by technical growth but by deep observation of people, emotion, and connection.
Jackie’s style doesn’t sit neatly in one category, and that’s exactly what makes it distinctive.
Each influence plays a clear role.
“The artistic side comes from my love of painting, color, and composition; the documentary side comes from growing up in cultures where emotions can be both loud and incredibly subtle; and the editorial side is about creating images that feel timeless without ever feeling stiff.”
Couples who work with Jackie often feel encouraged to explore and experiment.
“They’re drawn to how intentional I am with composition and with choices like film vs. digital or color vs. black and white, and they love taking creative risks and have fun with me on their big day.”
And no matter the approach, there’s always space for joy.
“Through it all, there’s always a sense of playfulness and creativity weaved in between.”
Jackie’s approach to gear is intuitive rather than fixed.
“Oh gosh, I use tons. I always bring along my two camera bodies, and multiple lenses.”
Flash plays a central role in her visual language.
“My flash is literally my best friend on the wedding day because I love the effect it gives during the day and the night.”
Film remains an essential creative outlet.
“I play around with analog film a lot so I bring along my collection of film cameras as well.”
What matters most is alignment.
“I don’t use the exact same setup at every wedding; I choose my equipment based on the vibe, light, and energy of the day.”
Jackie stays closely involved long after the wedding day ends.
“I select, crop and edit the photos myself after a wedding.”
She understands how important it is for couples to reconnect with their day quickly.
“Usually, I deliver a solid amount of sneak peeks to my clients so they can relive their day again faster.”
For film work, she collaborates with trusted labs.
“For film photography, I send my film rolls to a lab to get them scanned.”
At the heart of Jackie’s work is a fascination with people.
“What I enjoy most about being a wedding photographer is getting to capture human connection in its purest form.”
She’s drawn to what’s unspoken and fleeting.
“I’ve always been fascinated by people—how we interact, express love, or even hold back emotion.”
Those quiet moments often hold the most meaning.
“There’s something really meaningful about noticing the in-between fleeting moments that others might miss.”
For Jackie, photography is more than documentation.
“These pictures are little tokens of our existence :).
Every couple brings a different rhythm, and Jackie adjusts accordingly.
Some couples lean into spontaneity, others into structure.
“Some prefer spontaneous, playful and gentle moments, others appreciate more editorial direction and like to take creative risks with me.”
What never changes is respect.
“I never force anyone into something that doesn’t feel like them.”
Flexibility is central to Jackie’s workflow.
“Yes, of course! I always like to jump on a call with my couples to understand exactly what they need.”
From extended coverage to analog add-ons, everything is adaptable.
“I'm more than happy to customize a package for them.”
Looking back, Jackie sees how much growth happens beyond the camera.
“First, get familiar with taxes and all the bureaucratic bits that come with running a business.”
Community and learning play a huge role.
“Shadow photographers you admire, grab coffee with them, join their workshops, assist them if you can.”
And inspiration shouldn’t come from only one place.
“Keep feeding your creativity: paint, watch good films, read, explore art.”
Jackie believes strong planning supports strong imagery.
“My biggest recommendation is to hire a wedding planner who not only handles planning and execution but also understands design.”
A well-built foundation allows creativity to thrive.
Travel is a natural part of Jackie’s work.
Some locations have left a lasting impression.
“So far, Portugal and France have definitely been my favorite places to shoot.”
Jackie Chick Photography is rooted in emotion, culture, curiosity, and care. Her work feels playful yet intentional, artistic yet deeply human—capturing weddings not as performances, but as real, fleeting moments worth remembering.
