Alexandra Bertels, the creative mind behind Felix Boniface, brings a thoughtful blend of artistry and authenticity to her photography. She pairs an editorial eye with a focus on natural, unplanned moments. “I want my photos to feel honest and compelling,” she says. “Candid yet polished, never forced or overworked. That’s what defines my style.”

Alexandra traces her love for photography back to her childhood. "I was the kid sitting on the ground in the living room, spending hours flipping through family albums," she recalls. "It sparked my fascination with storytelling through images."

An interest that grew quietly at first, but quickly became a driving force. “I’m a dreamer,” she admits. "Nature, beauty, music, art, architecture—they've always moved me."

"As a teenager, I rarely left the house without my disposable camera. I shot whatever caught my eye, mostly everyday moments." Her interest in art led her to study Art History at university, where she delved further into visual storytelling. "I didn’t overthink it; I just knew photography was what I wanted to do."

Stories in Motion

As her wedding photography brand, Felix Boniface reflects Alexandra's style, which she describes as "organic yet cinematic." It’s not just about snapping pretty pictures. “I want my work to feel alive,” she says. “Each image should hold meaning, emotion, or sometimes both.”

Alexandra’s photos are known for their vibrant candor, but she also finds beauty in quiet moments. “I’m always looking to create a balance between energy and stillness. That is why I prefer to let moments unfold on their own,” she explains. “The best images come from people caught in the moment. I only step in for portraits and group shots.”

Tools of the Trade

Her toolkit is simple but intentional: one camera body and a couple of lenses. "Although I recently added a drone for extra perspective and scope. Mastering your tools and using them well is what matters,” she says.

Alexandra's post-production follows the same philosophy. "Culling is key," she points out, referring to the careful selection process that defines her editing workflow. "Once I have chosen the best images, I make subtle adjustments to lighting, contrast, and color to ensure the final collection feels cohesive and polished. It's all about the vibe.”

Expect the Unexpected

For Alexandra, photographing weddings is an adventure. “A wedding is its own world,” she says. “You meet incredible people, visit stunning places, and witness these deeply personal moments. It’s never boring. Every wedding brings something unexpected, and I love the challenge of staying present and adaptable."

Her appreciation for beauty lies in simple observations on these very significant days. “Though traveling is always an enjoyable perk,” she admits, “especially when it involves mountains, hills, lakes or rocky coastlines. Oh, and Italy, a little taste of la dolce vita. The charm never gets old.”

A Personal Approach

Alexandra knows that great wedding photography requires trust between the couple and photographer. "It's so important to be in sync with your photographer," she emphasizes. "I want my clients to feel understood and confident in my approach."

Before the wedding, she schedules calls to talk through the couple’s vision. "I listen and take notes. I want to know who and what matters most to them." She also sends out a detailed questionnaire covering timelines, locations, and other practical details to anticipate key moments.

Alexandra takes a selective approach to her work at Felix Boniface, limiting herself to 15-20 weddings per year. "This allows me to fully immerse myself in each couple’s story and capture their day with the attention it deserves."

Advice for Couples

Her advice for couples? Keep it simple. “Wear something you love, be comfortable in your skin, surround yourself with good people, and stay in the moment,” Alexandra says. "When couples are relaxed and happy, it shows in the photos. Ideally, I make them forget the camera is even there. That’s when the magic happens."

With her knack for capturing genuine emotions and unscripted moments, Alexandra delivers more than just photographs. Through Felix Boniface, she offers couples a window into the joy, love, and beauty of their wedding day—memories to hold onto forever.
