Melisa Ates, a 31-year-old wedding photographer based in Germany, discovered her passion for photography just a few years ago. “I've always enjoyed photography on the side,” she recalls, but it wasn’t until four years ago that she decided to leave her previous job and pursue photography full-time. Since then, she has built a name for herself in the wedding photography industry, known for her clean, timeless style.
Melisa is passionate about travel, meeting new people, and creating meaningful relationships with the couples she works with. “The bond with my bridal couple is very important to me, as it builds trust,” she explains. “I get to meet new people, explore new places, capture their stories, and, of course, celebrate with them.”
When asked how she would describe her photography style, Melisa emphasizes the importance of balance. “I place great value on timeless clean images. Combining art with aesthetics is the most important factor,” she says. Her photos focus on capturing the true essence of the moment, ensuring the memories she preserves will stand the test of time.
Melisa’s approach to working with clients is deeply collaborative. We stay in constant contact, create mood boards together, and discuss everything down to the finest details,” she explains. She believes that clear communication and trust are key to achieving the perfect result, and she works closely with couples to make sure their unique vision comes to life. This attention to detail extends to every aspect of her work, from the initial conversations to the final edits.
Melisa uses a carefully selected range of equipment to ensure the highest quality results. Her gear includes the Canon R5, two Canon R6 cameras, a drone for aerial shots, and even Fujifilm and Minolta cameras for those who appreciate the timeless beauty of film photography.
Her post-processing routine is equally meticulous. “After weddings, I carefully back up the data on multiple hard drives,” she explains. “Then, I sort the photos and prepare the previews, and afterwards, I edit them.” Melisa’s editing process enhances the natural beauty of the day, ensuring the final images are both polished and true to life.
One of Melisa’s favorite aspects of her job is photographing destination weddings. “Yes, I LOVE destination weddings,” she says enthusiastically. “No matter which spot the couples choose, this world is beautiful. There are still many places to explore, and I am passionate about it.” Her excitement for new experiences is clear, and she’s always eager to take her photography to unique and breathtaking locations.
Melisa offers flexibility when it comes to wedding packages, customizing each one to fit the specific needs of her clients. “Yes of course, it depends where the wedding is,” she confirms. “For example: Europe is cheaper than international weddings.” Whether her clients are planning an intimate local ceremony or a large, multi-day destination wedding, Melisa provides tailored options that align with both their desires and budgets.
For Melisa, the key to successful wedding photography lies in building trust and a genuine connection with the couple. “Building a bond and trust with the photographer, openly discussing your ideas and wishes—this is the only way to capture candid moments,” she advises.
